The Allied Telesis AT-SPBD10-13 is a 1000BASE-BX bidirectional SFP transceiver that carries full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet over a single strand of single-mode fibre. It transmits at 1310nm and receives at 1490nm, enabling bidirectional operation on one fibre using wavelength-division multiplexing. This module pairs with the AT-SPBD10-14 (1490nm TX / 1310nm RX) at the far end to form a complete single-fibre GbE link. BiDi (bidirectional) SFP transceivers exist to solve a common infrastructure constraint: fibre strands are limited, but network capacity requirements are not. Rather than consuming a fibre pair for each GbE link, a BiDi pair like the AT-SPBD10-13 and AT-SPBD10-14 uses a single strand to carry traffic in both directions simultaneously by separating the transmit and receive wavelengths. The AT-SPBD10-13 transmits on 1310nm and receives on 1490nm. At the opposite end of the fibre, the AT-SPBD10-14 transmits on 1490nm and receives on 1310nm — the two modules are complementary and must be paired together for correct operation. The 10km reach covers the same distance as a standard 1000BASE-LX link over OS1 or OS2 single-mode fibre. The LC simplex connector is the appropriate interface for single-fibre BiDi operation. This approach is common in access network builds where the fibre count between a distribution switch and a remote access point is constrained, or in fibre-to-the-node architectures where strand efficiency directly reduces infrastructure cost.
