Product Description
The AT-FS980M/18-10 is part of the Allied Telesis CentreCOM FS980M series, a family of managed Fast Ethernet edge switches designed to deliver enterprise-class features at the network access layer. The switch provides 16 x 10/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports for desktop and device connectivity, plus 2 Gigabit combo ports (copper RJ-45 or SFP fiber) for flexible uplink connectivity to distribution or core switches. The SFP uplinks accept standard SFP transceivers supporting fiber or additional copper gigabit connectivity based on the fiber infrastructure in place. Layer 3 switching capability enables IP routing between VLANs, supporting scalable network segmentation without a separate router for inter-VLAN traffic. The FS980M/18-10 integrates with the Allied Telesis Management Framework (AMF), Telesis’s proprietary zero-touch provisioning and centralized management system that simplifies network-wide configuration, firmware upgrades, and troubleshooting across all AMF-enabled devices from a single AMF Master switch. Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack) provides switch-level redundancy and simplified management of multiple switches as a single logical entity. The switch supports comprehensive security features including port security, 802.1X authentication, ACLs, and storm control. QoS capabilities ensure priority handling for voice, video, and latency-sensitive applications. The fixed internal AC power supply is included with the US power cord. The wall-mountable form factor makes it suitable for IDF closets, small conference room wiring, and remote office deployments where rack space is limited. Management is available via CLI, Web GUI, SNMP, and RMON. The FS980M series also supports Point of Sale (POS) and IP video surveillance applications through its QoS and VLAN features.
Key Features
- 16 x 10/100Base-TX Access Ports — RJ-45 ports for desktop, IP phone, wireless AP, and general device connectivity at the network edge.

- Layer 3 Switching — Supports inter-VLAN IP routing for scalable network design without requiring a dedicated router for VLAN traffic.
- Allied Telesis Management Framework (AMF) — Zero-touch provisioning and centralized network-wide management when deployed with an AMF Master switch.
- Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack) — Stack multiple FS980M switches as a single logical device for simplified management and enhanced resilience.
- Fully Managed (Layer 2/3) — CLI, Web GUI, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, and RMON management interfaces for comprehensive network control.
- Advanced Security — Includes 802.1X port authentication, port security, ACLs, and broadcast/multicast/unicast storm control.
- Quality of Service (QoS) — Prioritizes voice, video, and business-critical application traffic to minimize latency and packet loss.
- Fixed Internal AC Power Supply — Integrated power supply with US power cord included; no external power brick required.
- Wall Mountable Form Factor — Compact design (0.5" H x 13" W x 8" D) suitable for wall-mount IDF deployments and non-rack environments.
- IEEE 802.3 Compliant — Standards-based Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet operation ensuring interoperability with all major networking vendors.
- 18 Total Ports — 16 Fast Ethernet access ports plus 2 Gigabit uplink/SFP combo ports in a single managed switch.
Typical Applications
- Enterprise branch office and remote site access layer switching with centralized AMF management
- IDF wiring closet deployments where rack space is unavailable and wall mounting is preferred
- Small and medium business (SMB) network switching for workgroups, conference rooms, and department floors
- IP video surveillance networks requiring VLAN segmentation, QoS, and port-level security
- Point of Sale (POS) environments requiring secure, managed Fast Ethernet port connectivity
- Campus access layer deployments integrated with Allied Telesis AMF-enabled distribution and core switches

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Is the AT-FS980M/18-10 a managed switch?
- Yes. The FS980M/18-10 is a fully managed Layer 3 switch with CLI, Web GUI, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, and RMON management. It also integrates with the Allied Telesis Management Framework (AMF) for centralized, zero-touch management.
- Q: What are the SFP uplink ports used for?
- The 2 combo uplink ports each accept either a copper RJ-45 Gigabit connection or a standard SFP transceiver for fiber uplinks. This allows flexible connection to distribution or core switches via copper or single-mode/multimode fiber depending on the SFP installed.
- Q: What is Allied Telesis Management Framework (AMF)?
- AMF is Allied Telesis’s proprietary network management framework that enables zero-touch provisioning, automated backup and recovery, and centralized management of all AMF-enabled devices from a single AMF Master switch. It significantly reduces the time and effort required to manage branch and remote site networks.
- Q: Does the FS980M/18-10 support VLANs and inter-VLAN routing?
- Yes. The switch supports IEEE 802.1Q VLANs and Layer 3 inter-VLAN IP routing, enabling network segmentation and controlled traffic flow between segments without a separate router.
- Q: Can I stack multiple FS980M/18-10 switches?
- Yes. VCStack (Virtual Chassis Stacking) allows multiple FS980M switches to be stacked and managed as a single logical switch, improving resilience and simplifying network administration.
- Q: Does the switch include a power supply and power cord?
- Yes. The AT-FS980M/18-10 includes a fixed internal AC power supply and a US power cord. No external power brick is required.
- Q: Is this switch suitable for IP video surveillance deployments?
- Yes. The FS980M/18-10 supports QoS for video traffic prioritization, VLAN segmentation for isolating surveillance traffic, and port security features. Allied Telesis specifically highlights IP video surveillance as a supported application for the FS980M series.
- Q: What is the difference between the access ports and uplink ports?
- The 16 access ports operate at 10/100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and are intended for end-device connectivity. The 2 combo uplink ports operate at Gigabit speed (1000 Mbps) and are designed for upstream connectivity to higher-capacity distribution or core switches, accepting either copper or SFP fiber.
