Product Overview

The Allied Telesis AT-2711FX/MT-901 is a PCIe network interface card (NIC) delivering 100Mbps Fast Ethernet fiber connectivity via an MT/MTRJ duplex connector — one of the few modern NICs still available with this connector type for legacy fiber plant integration. TAA compliant and RoHS certified, it ships with both low-profile and standard height PCIe brackets, making it suitable for full-size and slim-form-factor servers. This card targets network engineers and IT teams maintaining fiber-connected infrastructure where replacing MT/MTRJ fiber terminations is cost-prohibitive.

Product Description

Allied Telesis AT-2711FX/MT-901 PCIe 100Mbps MTRJ fiber NIC TAA

The Allied Telesis PCIe NIC 100Mbps MTRJ fiber adapter TAA (AT-2711FX/MT-901) addresses a specific and often difficult-to-solve problem: adding or replacing a 100BASE-FX fiber NIC in a server that connects to legacy MT/MTRJ fiber cabling. MT/MTRJ is a compact duplex fiber connector (Tx and Rx in a single housing) that was widely deployed in the early 2000s. While LC and SC connectors have become the modern standard, many enterprise and government facilities still run MT/MTRJ fiber runs that cannot be cost-effectively re-terminated. This NIC allows those servers to be refreshed without replacing fiber plant. The card is a standard PCIe x1 form factor and operates at 100Mbps only — it is not a Gigabit NIC. TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliance makes it suitable for US federal government procurement. The package includes both a standard full-height bracket and a low-profile bracket for rack-mount servers with half-height PCIe slots. Manufactured in Singapore and fully RoHS compliant. Available through authorized Allied Telesis partners including Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • MT/MTRJ Duplex Fiber Connector — Rare in modern NICs; essential for legacy fiber plant integration without re-termination
  • 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet — 100Mbps fiber connectivity; not a Gigabit NIC
  • PCIe Form Factor — Compatible with modern servers and workstations with available PCIe slots
  • TAA Compliant — Eligible for US federal government and GSA procurement
  • RoHS Certified — Compliant with EU and international hazardous materials restrictions
  • Dual Bracket Included — Ships with both standard full-height and low-profile PCIe brackets
  • Country of Origin: Singapore — Meets TAA domestic/designated country sourcing requirements

Typical Applications

  • Legacy enterprise fiber infrastructure with MT/MTRJ terminations
  • US federal government server deployments requiring TAA-compliant components
  • Server refresh projects where replacing MT/MTRJ fiber runs is impractical
  • Industrial and manufacturing environments with existing MT/MTRJ fiber wiring
  • Low-bandwidth server connectivity where 100Mbps Fast Ethernet is sufficient

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is an MT/MTRJ connector and why is it unusual?
MT/MTRJ (Mechanical Transfer Registered Jack) is a compact duplex fiber connector that combines both transmit and receive fibers in a single small housing — roughly the size of an RJ-45 plug. It was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s but was largely supplanted by LC connectors. Today, very few new NICs support MT/MTRJ, making the AT-2711FX/MT-901 one of the few options for systems that must connect to existing MT/MTRJ fiber runs.
Q: Can I use an adapter to connect this NIC to LC or SC fiber instead of MT/MTRJ?
MT/MTRJ-to-LC and MT/MTRJ-to-SC fiber adapters and patch cables are available from specialty fiber suppliers. However, verify loss budgets and multimode fiber compatibility before deploying such adapters in production.
Q: Is this a Gigabit NIC?
No. The AT-2711FX/MT-901 is a 100Mbps Fast Ethernet NIC only. If your application requires Gigabit fiber connectivity, this card is not suitable — consider Allied Telesis Gigabit fiber NICs instead.
Q: Is this card eligible for US government procurement?
Yes. The AT-2711FX/MT-901 is TAA compliant and manufactured in Singapore, a TAA designated country. It is eligible for GSA schedule and other US federal government contract vehicles.
Q: Which PCIe slot does this NIC require?
The AT-2711FX/MT-901 uses a PCIe interface. It is compatible with PCIe x1 and larger slots. Both full-height and low-profile brackets are included for installation in standard ATX and slim-line server chassis.
