The Allen & Heath ZEDi-8 is a compact hybrid unit that functions simultaneously as a six-input analog mixer and a 24-bit/96 kHz USB audio interface. Tailored for musicians, podcasters, streamers, and home-studio producers who need the tactile control of a real mixer alongside the direct-to-computer recording capability of a USB interface, the ZEDi-8 eliminates the compromise between live-mixing flexibility and DAW-based production. Two high-quality GS2-R24-derived mic preamps anchor the signal path, backed by MusiQ EQ, high-pass filters, and Hi-Z instrument inputs that accept guitars directly without a DI box.
Product Description
On the analog side, the ZEDi-8 provides two XLR/TRS combo mic/line channels, two stereo line inputs on TRS, and two switchable Hi-Z instrument inputs — giving guitarists and bassists a direct connection path without additional hardware. The MusiQ two-band EQ on each channel was purpose-voiced by Allen & Heath engineers for musical sources, with carefully optimized frequency curves rather than generic shelf responses. High-pass filters on channels 1 and 2 keep low-frequency noise out of the mix.
The USB interface section offers 2-in/2-out operation at up to 24-bit/96 kHz resolution, connecting via USB-B to any Mac or PC. A USB routing switch lets you choose how the analog channels are aggregated before reaching your DAW — a practical feature for separating sources during multitrack sessions. The ZEDi-8 includes Cubase LE for desktop recording and Cubasis LE for iOS, providing a complete tracking environment out of the box. The unit is class-compliant and driver-free on most platforms, simplifying setup in live and studio contexts alike.
