At its core, the ZED-6FX provides two mic/line channels with separate XLR and balanced TRS inputs, each featuring the MusiQ two-band EQ — an EQ topology Allen & Heath's analog engineers specifically voiced for musical instruments and vocals. A high-pass filter on each channel keeps low-frequency rumble out of the mix. Two high-impedance guitar inputs on channels 1 and 2 allow direct connection of electric guitars and basses without a separate DI box, simplifying the signal chain for gigging musicians. Channels 3/4 and 5/6 accept stereo line-level sources via TRS.

The internal FX engine delivers 61 studio-quality effect presets encompassing reverb types, delays, and modulation effects, with a dedicated tap-tempo control for time-locked effects. The main outputs are balanced XLR, suitable for driving powered speakers or a house PA. An eight-segment LED meter gives constant visual feedback on output level, and pre-fader listen (PFL) buttons on each channel strip enable discrete monitoring before signals reach the main mix. The ZED-6FX runs from an internal power supply — no wall-wart required — and its robust construction meets the demands of repeated touring use.
