What is the Allen & Heath AH-QU-5D digital mixer?

The Allen & Heath AH-QU-5D is the Dante-equipped version of the compact Qu-5, a 96kHz digital mixer with 16 mic preamps, 12 XLR outputs, 16+1 motorised faders and a built-in 16x16 Dante interface. It mixes 38 inputs into 12 mixes, 4 matrices and main LR. The Qu-5D Dante mixer is aimed at conference rooms, houses of worship and multi-room facilities where the console must share audio with a Dante network of DSPs, recorders and amplifiers.

How does the Allen & Heath AH-QU-5D work?

The Qu-5D provides the full Qu-5 feature set and adds a 16x16 Dante interface at 48kHz or 96kHz on a dedicated locking EtherCON port. Dante channels can be patched to and from any input or output, so the mixer can feed a networked DSP, receive wireless microphone receivers or send a program mix to overflow rooms. Allen & Heath offers a 32x32 Dante channel upgrade add-on for systems that need more network channels.

On the surface, six RackExtra FX engines, a 32-channel Automatic Mic Mixer and a 7-inch touchscreen handle the mix. The 128x128 SLink port connects stageboxes and Everything I/O, the USB-C port gives 32x32 multitrack audio, and the SD slot records up to 16 tracks at 96kHz. Free remote apps cover Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, and the unit is rack mountable with an optional kit.

What are the key features of the Allen & Heath AH-QU-5D?

  • Built-in 16x16 Dante — integrates with networked DSPs, amplifiers and recorders on a locking EtherCON port.
  • Dante upgrade path — a 32x32 channel add-on is available from Allen & Heath.
  • 38 inputs to mix with 16+1 faders — compact surface with 4 fader layers.
  • 96kHz, sub-0.7ms latency — high-resolution processing for live and spoken-word sound.

  • 128x128 SLink port — expands I/O with remote stageboxes and Everything I/O.
