Product Overview
The Allen & Heath IP-6 is a compact, PoE-powered six-rotary remote controller designed for installed AV and live sound personal monitoring applications with AHM, Avantis, and dLive systems. Providing six assignable push-and-turn rotary encoders, 19 assignable SoftKeys, and six individual color LCD displays, the IP-6 gives operators and performers direct physical control over volume zones, source selection, DSP parameters, and system presets without requiring a tablet or touchscreen interface. It connects over Ethernet using a Neutrik EtherCON locking connector and operates on Power over Ethernet or an included 12V DC PSU — making it straightforward to deploy at any location with a network drop in boardrooms, multi-zone commercial AV systems, and corporate AV environments.
Product Description

The IP-6 operates as an Ethernet Layer 3 remote controller, communicating directly with the host AHM processor, Avantis mixer, or dLive system over the same network used for audio transport and system control. Each of the six rotary encoders is independently assignable to any parameter within the connected system — typically output volume zones, input gain, or effect return levels — and the push-and-turn function adds a secondary control action (such as mute) without requiring an additional button. The six color LCD screens update in real time to show the current value and parameter name for each rotary, eliminating the need for printed labels on the unit.

Up to six layers of control can be configured per unit, allowing a single IP-6 to provide access to dozens of system parameters across multiple pages — useful in installations where the number of controllable zones exceeds six but physical space or budget limits the number of controller units. The 3/8"-16 bottom thread on the IP-6 enables standard microphone stand or mounting arm attachment for positioning in presentation environments, monitor engineering positions, or at performer positions on stage. The included 12V DC PSU ensures the IP-6 can be powered even when PoE is not available at the installation location.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What Allen & Heath systems does the IP-6 support?
- The IP-6 is compatible with AHM audio matrix processors, Avantis digital mixing consoles, and dLive digital mixing systems. It connects via Ethernet and communicates using Allen & Heath’s Layer 3 remote control protocol.
- Does the IP-6 require PoE, or can it be powered differently?
- The IP-6 supports both PoE (from a compatible network switch) and 12V DC power via the included PSU. Either option is sufficient for full operation.
- How many parameters can be controlled from a single IP-6?
- With six rotary encoders across six control layers, a single IP-6 can provide access to up to 36 rotary parameter assignments. The 19 SoftKeys across six layers add up to 114 additional button assignments, totaling a large number of accessible system functions.
- Can the IP-6 be used without a tablet or touchscreen?
- Yes. The IP-6 is a standalone physical controller that does not require a tablet, computer, or touchscreen to operate. The color LCD displays on the unit provide sufficient feedback for normal operation in a programmed installation.
- How is the IP-6 mounted in a commercial installation?
- The IP-6 has a 3/8"-16 bottom thread for attachment to standard microphone stands or desk mounting arms. It can also be placed on a flat surface; for permanent wall or desk recessing, custom mounting solutions from third-party manufacturers compatible with the unit’s footprint may be used.
- Is the IP-6 suitable for performers to control their own monitor mix?
- Yes. In dLive personal monitoring applications, the IP-6 can be assigned to control the performer’s monitor bus send levels independently, providing a tactile physical interface for monitor control without access to the main mixing system.
- What is the maximum cable run to the IP-6 from the host system?
- As an Ethernet-based device, the IP-6 supports standard network cable runs of up to 328 feet (100 meters) on Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable. In larger installations, a PoE-capable network switch can extend reach further.
