Allen & Heath AH-IP-1W – IP1 Wallplate Programmable Remote Controller (White)
Product Overview
The Allen & Heath AH-IP-1W IP1 is a PoE-powered wallplate remote controller designed for use with Allen & Heath AHM audio system processors, Avantis mixers, and dLive S-Class and C-Class surfaces and MixRacks. Installed in a standard Decora-style wallplate faceplate, it provides non-technical end users with a simple interface for controlling music source selection, zone volume level, and scene or preset recall via a single push-and-turn rotary encoder and a color LCD screen. Up to 32 IP1 controllers can be deployed on a single Ethernet L3-based network, making it scalable for large commercial AV installations with multiple control zones.
Product Description
In commercial AV installations, end-user control interfaces must be simple enough for non-technical staff to operate confidently while providing enough programmatic flexibility to satisfy the routing and scene management requirements of complex audio systems. The IP1 addresses both requirements in a wallplate form factor that matches standard North American Decora electrical faceplates.
The push-and-turn rotary encoder is the sole physical control on the IP1. Turning it adjusts whichever parameter is currently selected on the color LCD screen — typically zone level in most installations. Pressing the encoder advances through available parameters or confirms a selection. This single-control approach reduces the potential for user error and eliminates the need for operator training in most scenarios.
The color LCD screen provides clear feedback of the current parameter being controlled. In a typical zone volume implementation, the screen displays the zone name and current level in a format that is immediately legible to any user. For source selection, the screen shows the available sources and the currently active selection. For preset recall, scene names are displayed for direct selection.
The IP1 is powered entirely via PoE from a compatible network switch, requiring only a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable to be run to the wallplate location. There is no need for a separate low-voltage power supply at each controller, which simplifies the installation significantly in multi-zone environments. The unit connects to the AHM, Avantis, or dLive system over the same Ethernet network, using the Allen & Heath IP-based remote control protocol.
Up to 32 IP1 controllers can be connected simultaneously to a single Allen & Heath system, providing individual zone control points throughout a facility without requiring separate control processors or proprietary wiring. This is a significant advantage in installations such as multi-room hospitality properties, corporate campuses, and performing arts facilities where dozens of independently controllable audio zones are required.
The white finish is compatible with standard white Decora wallplates and is the appropriate choice for facilities with white electrical finish throughout. A black version (AH-IP-1B) is available separately for installations with black electrical finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What Allen & Heath systems is the IP1 compatible with?
- The IP1 is compatible with AHM audio system processors, Avantis mixers, and dLive S-Class and C-Class surfaces and MixRacks. It is not compatible with Qu, GLD, or iLive systems.
- How many IP1 controllers can be connected to a single Allen & Heath system?
- Up to 32 IP1 controllers can be connected to a single system over an Ethernet L3 network.
- What cable is required to connect the IP1 to the network?
- Standard Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable is required. The cable carries both network data and PoE power to the unit. No separate power supply wiring is needed.
- Does the IP1 require a PoE-capable network switch?
- Yes. The IP1 is powered via PoE and requires a PoE-capable network switch at the infrastructure level. Standard non-PoE switches will not power the unit.
- Can the IP1 be used to recall scenes or presets on the AHM or dLive system?
- Yes. Scene and preset recall is one of the three primary programmable functions of the IP1, alongside zone level control and music source selection.
- Does the IP1 fit into standard North American wallplate faceplates?
- Yes. The IP1 is designed to fit Decora-style wallplate faceplates, which are the standard single-gang plate format used throughout North America for switches and outlets.
- What is the difference between the AH-IP-1W and the AH-IP-1B?
- The AH-IP-1W has a white finish and the AH-IP-1B has a black finish. The functionality, specifications, and compatibility are identical between the two models.
- Does the IP1 support custom labeling for zones and sources on the LCD screen?
- Yes. Zone names and source names displayed on the LCD screen are configured through the Allen & Heath system's control software and can be customized to match the facility's naming conventions.
