Allen & Heath AHM-64 – 64x64 Audio Matrix Processor for Commercial AV Installation
The Allen & Heath AHM-64 is a 64x64 audio matrix processor purpose-built for sound management in installed AV environments, delivering sophisticated audio distribution, paging, conferencing, and speaker processing from a single 2 RU rack unit. With 12 local analog inputs and 12 local analog outputs on Phoenix connectors, plus an I/O expansion port supporting up to 128x128 channels via proprietary point-to-point or Dante transport, the AHM-64 scales from small meeting room systems to large multi-zone campus deployments. Its 96 kHz FPGA processing core provides ultra-low latency and the headroom required for high channel count installations without compromising audio quality.
Product Description
The AHM-64 is designed for the commercial AV integrator working in environments where audio must be reliably distributed, zoned, and managed across multiple spaces. The 64 configurable processing outputs can be routed, mixed, and processed independently, allowing one unit to simultaneously handle FOH, paging, overflow zone, and conference room audio without additional hardware. Each output includes a full signal processing chain for speaker management including parametric EQ, dynamics, and delay.
The local 12x12 Phoenix connector I/O handles the primary source and destination connections, while the expansion port extends the system to Allen & Heath's full range of portable, rackmount, and wallmount expanders. Integrators can choose between Allen & Heath's proprietary Layer-2 protocol for point-to-point connections or Dante/AES67 for IP-networked audio distribution — both are supported, and the choice does not require different hardware.
Third-party control integration is handled via GPIO, TCP/IP, and RS-232, supporting common control systems from Crestron, AMX, Q-SYS, and similar platforms. Allen & Heath's own IP remote controllers provide volume control, source selection, and preset recall at zone level without requiring a third-party controller. The AHM-64's Automatic Mic Mixing (AMM) function manages multi-microphone conference and panel talk scenarios, reducing background noise gain and operator intervention. Audio Designer software provides the configuration and signal flow interface for system programming.
Key Features

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the AHM-64 designed for?
- The AHM-64 is designed for commercial AV installation applications including audio distribution, paging, conferencing, and speaker processing in multi-zone environments such as corporate offices, houses of worship, government facilities, and educational campuses.
- How does the AHM-64 expand beyond 12x12 local I/O?
- The AHM-64's I/O expansion port connects to Allen & Heath's range of audio expanders — including DT164, DT168, GX4816, and Dante-equipped units — extending the total system I/O up to 128x128 channels.
- Does the AHM-64 support Dante networking?
- Yes. The AHM-64 supports both Allen & Heath's proprietary Layer-2 transport and Dante/AES67 for IP-networked audio distribution. The choice of protocol depends on the network infrastructure and other devices in the system.
- Can the AHM-64 integrate with Crestron or AMX control systems?
- Yes. The AHM-64 provides GPIO, TCP/IP, and RS-232 interfaces for integration with third-party control systems including Crestron, AMX, and Q-SYS. Allen & Heath also publishes a control protocol document for custom integration.
- What software is used to configure the AHM-64?
- The AHM-64 is configured using Allen & Heath's Audio Designer software, which provides a graphical interface for signal routing, processing setup, and zone configuration. Audio Designer runs on Windows and is available as a free download.
- Does the AHM-64 include Automatic Mic Mixing?
- Yes. The AHM-64 includes Automatic Mic Mixing (AMM), which reduces the gain of microphones that are not actively being spoken into. This is particularly useful in conference rooms and panel discussions with multiple open microphones.
- What Allen & Heath remote controllers are compatible with the AHM-64?
- Allen & Heath's IP wall panels, touchscreens, and the HIVE IP control app are all compatible with the AHM-64, providing zone-level volume control, source selection, and preset recall without a dedicated third-party control processor.
