The AIDA Imaging CBL-RJ45 is an RS-232C adapter cable that converts the 8-pin Mini-DIN male connector used on AIDA PTZ cameras to a standard RJ45 connector, enabling Serial VISCA camera control over Cat5/Cat6 cabling. Designed as the direct companion accessory for the AIDA CCS-USB camera controller, the CBL-RJ45 bridges the connector gap between the controller’s RS-232C output and the camera’s RJ45 VISCA input. It can also be used to cascade-link multiple VISCA cameras together in a daisy-chain control topology. The CBL-RJ45 is an essential cabling accessory for any AIDA serial VISCA control deployment.
Product Description
Serial VISCA control over RS-232 remains one of the most widely deployed PTZ camera control methods in professional AV, broadcast, and house of worship installations. However, RS-232C connections on cameras and controllers are frequently terminated with different connector types — Mini-DIN 8-pin on the camera side versus RJ45 on the controller or run cable side. The CBL-RJ45 resolves this mismatch directly, providing a reliable, purpose-wired conversion without requiring custom cable fabrication or gender changer dongles. The wiring is configured specifically for VISCA protocol signal routing, not a generic RS-232 pinout swap.
In a typical deployment, one CBL-RJ45 is connected to the RS-232C port on the camera body, and a second CBL-RJ45 is connected to the RS-232C output of the CCS-USB controller. A standard Cat5e or Cat6 patch cable between the two RJ45 ends completes the VISCA control run. This approach allows control cable runs to be made with inexpensive, readily available Ethernet cabling rather than specialty serial cable. The CBL-RJ45 is one of AIDA’s original accessories and is listed as the recommended companion cable in the CCS-USB specifications.
