Product Overview

The Adder X2-SILVER/R-US is the receiver (console-end) unit of the AdderLink X2 Silver PS/2 KVM extender with transparent RS232, delivering keyboard, video, and mouse control up to 200m (650ft) over a single CATx cable. It is the right choice for facilities maintaining PS/2-based equipment that need a CATx KVM receiver with serial extension for touch screens, serial consoles, or legacy control hardware. Integrators searching for an AdderLink X2 Silver receiver, a PS/2 KVM extender over CAT5, or an RS232 KVM receiver unit will find vendor-verified performance here. Note: the X2 Silver is a legacy PS/2-era product line; verify long-term availability for new large-scale rollouts.

Product Description

The AdderLink X2-Silver family extends very high quality VGA video, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, and transparent high-speed RS232 across standard Category 5 or higher UTP cable. The X2-SILVER/R-US is the remote receiver only — it pairs with an X2 Silver transmitter at the computer end, or serves as a replacement or spare receiver in an existing X2 Silver installation.

AdderLink X2-SILVER/R-US PS/2 KVM and RS232 CATx receiver unit

Video performance is a defining strength of the X2 Silver: resolutions of 1600 x 1200 are achievable at the full 200m (650ft) extension distance, supported by a high level of signal compensation with smooth, fine adjustment. Integrated DeSkew with a 300MHz bandwidth counteracts the color skew introduced by long CATx runs, keeping images sharp even at distance. Full emulated DDC support means high-performance video cards can run at high resolutions without configuration workarounds.

AdderLink X2 Silver receiver rear panel connections

The receiver presents HD-15 video, MiniDin6 PS/2 keyboard and mouse, a DB9 serial port, and an RJ45 CATx link in a compact all-metal chassis. Both transmitter and receiver units can be used stand-alone, or up to 16 units can be mounted in a 2U X-Series rack chassis for high-density equipment rooms. The X2 Silver line dates from the PS/2 era and is considered legacy — it remains documented by the vendor, but organizations planning new USB-based deployments should consider current AdderLink extenders from the Adder Technology collection at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • 200m / 650ft CATx Extension — Extends KVM and serial control up to 200 metres over Category 5, 5e, 6, or 7 cable.
  • High-Resolution Video — Industry-leading 1600 x 1200 resolution is achievable at the full 200m extension distance.
  • Integrated DeSkew — 300MHz-bandwidth skew correction counteracts the color skew effects introduced by long CATx cable runs.
  • Transparent RS232 — A DB9 serial port carries transparent RS232 for touch screens, serial consoles, and control devices.
  • Advanced Video Compensation — A wide range of smooth, fine compensation adjustments preserves image quality over distance.
  • Emulated DDC — Full DDC support lets high-performance video cards operate at high resolutions through the extension link.
  • Rack-Dense Design — Up to 16 units fit into a 2U X-Series rack mount chassis; the unit also works stand-alone on a desk.
  • Broad OS Compatibility — Operates with Windows, DOS, Linux, Unix, BSD, Sun OS, Solaris, Mac OS, and NetWare.

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio — keeping noisy PS/2-era playout and automation hardware in the machine room while operating from the studio floor

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a complete extender kit?
No. The X2-SILVER/R-US is the receiver unit only. It must be paired with an X2 Silver transmitter (the X2-SILVER/P part code denotes a full pair), or used as a spare/replacement in an existing installation.

Is the X2 Silver still a current product?
The X2 Silver is a legacy PS/2-era line. Adder still publishes documentation for it, but for new USB-based projects we recommend current AdderLink extenders. Contact Creation Networks for guidance on a modern equivalent.

Does it support USB keyboards and mice?
No. The X2 Silver receiver uses MiniDin6 PS/2 connectors for keyboard and mouse. For USB consoles, consider the AdderLink X200 series.

What is the RS232 port used for?
The DB9 serial port carries a transparent RS232 channel alongside KVM, commonly used for touch screens, serial terminals, and control equipment at the remote console.

Can it be rack mounted?
Yes. The unit fits one slot width in the Adder X-Series rack mount chassis; up to 16 units occupy 2U of rack space.

What cable should I run between transmitter and receiver?
A single run of Category 5 or higher UTP (CAT5/5e/6/7), up to 200m / 650ft.
