Product Overview

The Adder X-DVIPRO-MS2-US (AdderLink X-DVI PRO MS2) is a dual-head DVI KVM extender that transmits two Single Link DVI-D video streams, transparent USB 2.0, and analog audio up to 50m (164 ft) over twin CATx cables. It lets organizations move critical computing hardware into a secure, temperature-controlled room while the operator keeps a full at-the-PC experience on two displays. For projects needing a dual-monitor DVI extender over CATx, an uncompressed zero-latency KVM extender, or HDMI video and audio extension via adapter cables, the X-DVI PRO MS2 delivers pixel-perfect digital video with no compression artifacts.

Product Description

The X-DVI PRO MS2 ships as a transmitter/receiver pair connected by two runs of CATx cable. Video is extended uncompressed, so the remote consoles show exactly what a locally attached monitor would — with zero added latency — at resolutions up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz per head. That makes it suitable for editing suites, imaging workstations, and operator desks where compression artifacts are unacceptable.

USB handling is fully transparent: the extender supports all USB 1.1 and 2.0 low/full-speed devices, including HID and mass storage, across PC, Sun, and Mac platforms, with four USB-A ports on the receiver for a complete remote desktop. Stereo analog audio (16-bit at 44.1kHz) travels alongside, and with VSCD11 HDMI-to-DVI converter cables the system also carries HDMI video plus eight channels of HDMI audio at sample rates up to 192kHz — simultaneously with the jack audio.

Deployment is straightforward: units arrive in a zero-config state with no drivers or software to install, EDID management mirrors the remote monitor's true characteristics back to the computer, and the transmitter can draw power entirely from the host computer's USB connections, reducing power outlets at the rack. Both units use compact, rack-mountable metal cases. Adder recommends shielded CAT7 cabling for maximum distance; achievable runs vary by resolution and cable grade (for example, 1920x1200 @ 60Hz reaches 60m on CAT7a trunk cable). Pair it with other extension and switching hardware from the Adder Technology collection at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • Uncompressed Dual-Head DVI Video — Two Single Link DVI-D streams at up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz with zero latency and no visible artifacts.
  • 50m CATx Extension — Video, USB 2.0, and audio travel up to 50m over twin CATx cables, with up to 60m possible at HD resolutions on CAT7a trunk cable.
  • Transparent USB 2.0 — Supports all USB 1.1/2.0 low and full-speed devices including HID and mass storage, on PC, Sun, and Mac platforms.
  • HDMI Capability via Adapter Cables — With VSCD11 cables, extends HDMI video and 8-channel HDMI audio (16/20/24-bit up to 192kHz) alongside analog audio.
  • USB-Powered Transmitter — The local unit can run solely from the host computer's USB connections, simplifying rack power planning.
  • EDID Management — Passes the remote monitor's true EDID back to the computer for correct video output without manual configuration.
  • Zero-Config Plug and Play — No drivers or software; units work as soon as they are connected.
  • Compact Rack-Mountable Build — All-metal 120 x 75 x 48 mm cases at 500g each, with optional rackmount hardware.

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio edit suites with remote machine rooms
  • Government space workstations separated from secured hardware
  • Training room instructor stations driven from a central equipment closet
  • Commercial meeting space presentation PCs racked away from the room

Frequently Asked Questions

What cable should I run for a full 50m installation?
Adder recommends shielded CAT7 trunk cable (e.g., Daetwyler 7702/7120). Each patch/break connection reduces usable distance by about 5m, and CAT5e is not recommended for this system.

Can it carry HDMI sources?
Yes. Using VSCD11 HDMI-to-DVI converter cables, the extender supports HDMI video up to the 165MHz clock rate plus 8 channels of HDMI audio, simultaneously with the analog jack audio.

Does the transmitter need its own power supply?
No. The transmitter can be powered entirely from the host computer's two USB connections; an optional DC input is available. The receiver ships with its power adapter.

Will my graphics tablet or flash drive work at the remote desk?
The extender provides transparent USB 2.0 (low and full speed) supporting HID and mass storage devices. Note USB hubs at the receiver count as 5m of cable length.

Is any software installation required?
No. The units are zero-config and work immediately on connection, with EDID management handled automatically.

What platforms are compatible?
All common hardware platforms including PC, Sun, and Mac, and all known operating systems.
