Product Overview

The Adder CATX-USB is a computer access module (CAM) that connects machines with VGA and USB ports to Adder CATx KVM switches and extenders over a single CAT5e, CAT6, or CAT7 cable. This USB VGA computer access module sits inline at the target computer, requires no additional power to operate, and presents an RJ45 socket for the CATx run back to the switch or extender. It is the workhorse interface module for connecting USB-equipped servers and workstations into an Adder CATx KVM extension or switching system.

Product Description

In an Adder CATx deployment, each target machine is attached through a CAM — a small device that gathers the computer's required output ports onto one standard CATx cable. The CATX-USB variant serves the most common modern configuration: VGA video with USB keyboard and mouse. Adder also offers the CATX-USBA variant, which adds audio output alongside USB and VGA for machines that need sound carried with the KVM signals.

The main body is constructed from a tough ABS material housing the RJ45 connector, with short connections made from the module into the rear of the target computer or server. The unit is self-powered, so no per-server power adapter is required — a practical advantage when cabling dozens of machines in a rack row. As with all Adder CAMs, Adder Keep Alive technology ensures the keyboard and mouse inputs to the computer remain active even when that channel is not selected, eliminating connection delays or problems at the moment a port is switched to. Adder associates the CAM range with the ADDERLink X100 and X200 extenders and the ADDERView CATx 1000, CATx 4000, CATxIP 5000, RDX 1000, and RDX 5000IP platforms.
