Product Overview

The Adder AVX5016IP-US ADDERView CATxIP 5000 is a high-density KVM over IP switch that gives one local console and four simultaneous IP users BIOS-level control of up to 16 computers. Built for server rooms and equipment racks supporting commercial AV and IT estates, this 16-port KVM over IP switch combines USB console support, global IP access, and a full KVM feature set in a compact chassis. As a multi-user CATx KVM switch with remote access, it lets administrators manage servers from the rack, across the LAN, or over the WAN with secure encrypted sessions.

Product Description

The ADDERView CATxIP 5000 connects up to 16 target computers through Adder Computer Access Modules (CAMs) over standard CATx cabling, so any mix of PS/2, USB, and Sun servers can sit on the same switch. Five separate users can work concurrently: one local console at the rack plus four non-blocking IP connections from anywhere on the network.

Because access is delivered at BIOS level, remote users can watch a server boot, enter setup, and recover machines that no longer respond to software-based remote tools. Global users connect with RealVNC client software or a standard browser, with sessions protected by AES 128-bit encryption and RSA 2048-bit authentication — a security architecture designed specifically for KVM over IP applications.

Video is supported at resolutions up to 1600x1200 @ 60Hz. The local console accepts a VGA monitor (HDD15), keyboard and mouse on MiniDIN-6 or USB Type A, and audio on a 3.5mm stereo jack. The small form factor is rack-efficient: one or two CATxIP 5000 switches mount in 1U of rack height, allowing up to 32 ports per U when two units sit side by side.

For organizations building out a larger Adder estate, the switch pairs naturally with Adder extenders for remote consoles and the broader matrix portfolio. See the full Adder Technology collection at Creation Networks for CAM modules, cabling, and complementary KVM switches.

Key Features

  • 1 Local + 4 IP Users, 16 Computers — Five simultaneous users get independent, non-blocking access to any of 16 connected servers.
  • BIOS-Level Control — Hardware-based access lets administrators reach servers during boot, even when the operating system is down.
  • Secure Remote Sessions — AES 128-bit encryption with RSA 2048-bit authentication protects every IP connection.
  • VNC and Browser Access — Global users connect via RealVNC client software or a standard web browser with no agents on the targets.
  • Multi-Platform CAM Support — Computer Access Modules connect PS/2, USB, and Sun servers over standard CATx cable, with optional audio-enabled CAMs.
  • High Rack Density — Two switches fit in 1U for up to 32 ports per U of rack height.
  • 1600x1200 Video — Supports server console resolutions up to 1600x1200 @ 60Hz.
  • Gigabit-Ready Network Port — RJ45 10/100 Mb autosensing Ethernet connects the switch to the LAN for IP user sessions.

Typical Applications

  • Government space — encrypted, hardware-level server access for facilities with strict remote administration policies.
  • Broadcast studio — manage playout, automation, and graphics servers from the control room or remotely without leaving the rack unattended.
  • Commercial meeting space — administer the AV head-end servers behind multiple rooms from a single console or off-site.
  • Training room — give instructors and IT staff concurrent access to lab servers from local and remote positions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to connect each server?
Each target computer requires an Adder Computer Access Module (CAM) matched to its interface — USB, PS/2, or Sun, with optional audio variants — connected to the switch over standard CATx cable.

Can all four IP users work at the same time?
Yes. The four IP connections are non-blocking and operate concurrently with the local console, for five independent user sessions.

Do remote users need special software?
Remote users can connect with RealVNC client software or through a standard web browser; no agent software is installed on the target servers.

Is access really available when a server crashes?
Yes. Because the switch operates at the hardware level, users retain keyboard, video, and mouse control during boot and BIOS configuration, independent of the server's operating system state.

How much rack space does it need?
The small form factor allows one or two units in 1U of rack height — two units side by side support 32 computers in a single U.
