Product Overview

The Adder AL-IPEPS (AdderLink ipeps — "IP Engine Per Server") is a standalone KVM-over-IP unit that gives IT teams secure, BIOS-level remote access to a single computer or server across a standard IP network. Using RealVNC client software, up to four users can remotely and securely reach the target machine — even from outside the network — with VGA video at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200. For buyers researching a single-port KVM over IP gateway, a remote server management device with VNC access, or an out-of-band VGA remote access unit, the ipeps remains a compact, OS-independent solution.

Product Description

Unlike software remote-access agents, the ipeps connects directly to the computer's VGA and PS/2 ports (USB connectivity is supported via the included converter plugs), so control is maintained during boot-up, at BIOS level, and even when the operating system has crashed. The controlled device does not need to be operational for the ipeps itself to function — making it a dependable out-of-band management tool for critical hardware.

Adder AL-IPEPS standalone KVM over IP unit

Built around an embedded RealVNC server with RFB 3.3 support, the ipeps streams high-performance video over VNC free of HTTPS limitations, supporting standard PC, Sun and Mac video modes up to 1600 x 1200 with a scalable viewer. Administrators can create up to 16 user profiles with defined access rights, and up to four users can be connected concurrently. A USB virtual media port allows files to be transferred over IP through the ipeps onto the target computer — useful for patching machines on isolated subnets.

AdderLink ipeps rear panel with VGA, PS/2 and RJ45 network connections

The unit is housed in a compact all-metal enclosure measuring just 120 x 27 x 75mm, connecting to the network through a single 10/100 RJ45 port. For larger estates, Adder's ADDER.NET enterprise management software provides a centralized, secure access-management interface across multiple ipeps units. Please note this is a long-serving legacy model in Adder's remote access range; it remains listed by the vendor and ships with a VKVM-1M KVM cable set and USB converter plugs. Key Features

  • Standalone KVM over IP — Dedicated hardware gives remote access to one computer over a standard IP network with no software agent on the target.
  • RealVNC Server with RFB 3.3 — Up to four concurrent users can securely access the target system, with up to 16 user profiles and defined access rights.
  • BIOS-Level, Out-of-Band Control — Full control is maintained during boot, in BIOS, or after an OS crash; the unit works even when the controlled device is down.
  • High-Performance Video over VNC — Supports PC, Sun and Mac video modes up to 1600 x 1200 with a scalable viewer.
  • USB Virtual Media — Transfer files over IP through the ipeps to the target computer via the USB virtual media port.
  • Enterprise Management Ready — Integrates with ADDER.NET for centralized, secure user-access management across multiple units.
  • Compact Metal Construction — 120 x 27 x 75mm chassis (0.34kg) fits behind servers or in shallow equipment spaces.
  • OS Independent — Compatible with Windows, DOS, Linux, Unix, BSD, Sun OS, macOS, NetWare and other known operating systems.

Typical Applications

  • Government space — out-of-band access to isolated systems without installing remote-access software.
  • Broadcast studio — remote management of playout and automation machines from engineering positions.
  • Training room — administer lab or instructor machines remotely at BIOS level.
  • Commercial meeting space — manage room PCs and signage players from the IT help desk over the LAN.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the AL-IPEPS require software on the target computer?
No. It connects directly to the computer's VGA and PS/2 ports (USB via included converters) and works independently of the target's operating system — including at BIOS level and during crashes.

How do users connect remotely?
Through RealVNC client software. The embedded RealVNC server (RFB 3.3) supports up to four concurrent users and 16 configurable user profiles with defined access rights.

Can I transfer files to the remote machine?
Yes. The USB virtual media port allows files to be passed over IP through the ipeps onto the target computer.

Is this a current or legacy product?
The ipeps is a long-established model that remains listed in Adder's remote access range. For newer HDMI or DisplayPort sources, Adder also offers the ipeps mini family; contact us if you are unsure which fits your installation.

Can multiple ipeps units be managed centrally?
Yes. ADDER.NET enterprise management software provides a centralized, secure user-access management interface across multiple units.

What network speed does it support?
The unit connects over a single RJ45 port with 10/100 Ethernet support.
