The shim helps keep the finished grille sitting flush rather than proud or recessed.
Product Description
Medium Architectural Series installations, including the AS68RS speaker and BPS8 bandpass subwoofer, rely on a mounting platform sized for a specific wall thickness, and a thicker-than-expected wall assembly can leave the grille sitting slightly recessed once finished. The Medium AS Plaster Shim solves this by inserting behind the mounting platform to restore the correct depth before the grille is installed, which is a much faster fix than re-cutting the opening. Because it is a simple mechanical spacer, no wiring or configuration is involved and it can be installed during rough carpentry or drywall finishing. Installers commonly keep a few of these shims on hand alongside other speaker mounting accessories in case a wall is framed or finished thicker than the drawings indicated. The part is designed specifically for the medium-format Architectural Series mounting platform family rather than the smaller Thinline or Discreet platforms.
