Active Learning Classroom AV —
Spaces Where Students Work Together.
Creation Networks designs and installs active learning classroom AV for colleges, universities, and schools: multi-display group spaces, wireless content sharing, instructor override, and room audio. Our CTS-D certified engineers build collaborative rooms that instructors can run without a technician, including the huddle-desk classrooms at Lake Tahoe Community College.

What is an active learning classroom?
An active learning classroom is a room designed for students to work in groups, with movable furniture, multiple displays, and technology that lets groups share their work with the class and lets the instructor monitor and select what is shown. Creation Networks designs the AV for these rooms: group displays, wireless sharing, instructor override controls, and room audio, programmed so the instructor runs the room from one interface.
Typical builds use one display per group or per table cluster, a presentation system that routes any display to the main screen, and microphones that capture discussion for recording or hybrid delivery. See our interactive displays and request a quote.
Active Learning Classroom AV Where the Instructor Stays in Control
Active learning rooms invite student agency, which is the point. The technology has to give students freedom without taking the instructor out of command of the lesson.
That balance is the central design problem. Students need to share their screens easily, but the instructor must be able to see all groups at once, select one to show on the main display, and reset every display with a touch. A room that lets any student take over the main screen defeats the lesson; a room with no sharing defeats the format.
We design for that by giving the instructor a single control surface that sees every group display, routes any source to the front, and returns the room to a known state. Read about similar spaces at Lake Tahoe Community College and Los Medanos Community College.

What AV Does an Active Learning Classroom Need?
Display • Sharing • Control • Audio • Capture
Group Displays
A display per table cluster or along the wall so every group can see and edit shared work. Lake Tahoe Community College uses huddle desks with 43-inch screens in two classrooms. Commercial displays.
Commercial displays →Wireless Sharing
Students cast from laptops, tablets, or phones without cables. See Barco ClickShare.
Wireless sharing →Instructor Control
One touch panel to preview all groups, send any to the main display, and reset the room. AV control programming.
Control programming →Room Audio
Ceiling or table microphones that capture discussion for recording or remote students, and speakers sized for the room. Classroom audio systems.
Classroom audio →Cameras & Capture
Cameras that record or stream group work for review and hybrid participation. HyFlex classroom technology.
HyFlex →Scheduling Panels
Room scheduling displays outside the door so students and staff see availability. Extron room scheduling.
Room scheduling →How Should Displays and Cameras Be Laid Out in an Active Learning Room?
Layout starts with sightlines. Every student should see the main display and at least one group display without turning away from teammates, and the instructor should be able to see most displays from where they teach. We model the room before we mount anything, choosing display count and placement to match furniture layout and group size.
Cameras and microphones follow the same logic. Ceiling microphones capture discussion across the room, while cameras frame the instructor and, where needed, selected groups. See lecture hall AV for larger tiered rooms and large room collaboration kits.
How Do You Standardize Active Learning Rooms Across a Campus?
Active learning rooms are more complex than lecture classrooms, so repeatability matters more.
We define one active learning room standard, with a fixed number of group displays, a standard sharing platform, and one control interface, then adapt it to each room size. That keeps training simple and lets IT support every active learning room the same way.
The same approach underpins our community college and university work, and our multipurpose room AV designs for spaces that reconfigure.

Frequently Asked Questions — Active Learning Classroom AV
Answers to the questions faculty, instructional designers, and campus planners ask most often about active learning classroom technology. Written by our CTS-D certified AV design engineers.
What equipment does an active learning classroom need?
Group displays, wireless sharing, an instructor control interface, room audio, and often cameras for recording. See our classroom AV systems.
How many displays do I need for an active learning room?
It depends on group count and room size. We model sightlines and furniture layout to set display count and placement.
Can students share their screens wirelessly?
Yes, with a wireless sharing platform where the instructor controls which source reaches the main display. Barco ClickShare.
How does the instructor control the room?
One touch panel previews group displays, sends any to the main screen, and resets the room.
Can active learning rooms be recorded or hybrid?
Yes. We add ceiling microphones and a camera so the room supports recording or HyFlex. HyFlex classroom technology.
Do active learning rooms need assistive listening?
Yes, where the room has an audible communication system. ADA AV compliance.
How are active learning classrooms funded?
Often through bond, capital, or grant funds. See how schools and colleges buy and fund AV.
What support do active learning rooms need?
Monitoring of displays and sharing systems plus faculty training. Education AV support.
