Being heard is not the same as being understood

AtlasIED puts intelligibility at the centre of the GLOBALCOM argument, and they are right to. A notification system that is audible but not intelligible fails the only test that matters: whether people know what to do. The platform is proven in the majority of the world's largest airports, where intelligibility requirements are strict and enforced.

That is the same standard an inspector applies to your building, whether it is an airport or a high school.

An ecosystem, not a product

GLOBALCOM is built from parts that are specified together:

• Announcement control systems — the IP116-D, IP232-D and EDU controllers that hold Dante message channels and route announcements to zones
• Communication stations — touchscreen and handheld-microphone stations where an operator selects zones and messages without memorising codes
• IPX endpoints — PoE+ ceiling and wall speakers, weather-resistant IP horns, and LCD display speakers that carry text alongside audio
• Intercom stations — including vandal-resistant models for entrances and public areas
• Mounting enclosures — flush, surface and angled options matched to each endpoint

Endpoints run over PoE+ on the existing network, which is what makes the system extend without new infrastructure.

It monitors itself, which is the part that matters in year three

Most notification systems are commissioned correctly and then quietly degrade — an amplifier channel fails, a speaker circuit opens, and nobody knows until the day it is needed. GLOBALCOM supervises hardware from head end to endpoint, raises a fault when something breaks, and activates available redundancy automatically.

It logs what was announced, when, from where, and to which zones. For a public agency that has to demonstrate its emergency procedures were followed, that record is evidence rather than convenience.

Ambient noise sensing and automated triggers

Patented ambient noise sensing raises announcement level to stay above the room's actual noise floor, rather than running fixed — too quiet in a busy concourse, startling in an empty one.

Announcements can be triggered by schedule or by other systems entirely: fire alarm, security, gunshot detection, video analytics, weather feeds. Supervised logic inputs handle the fire alarm and security interfaces, which is what lets GLOBALCOM act as the voice for systems that otherwise have none.

Visual notification and ADA

Where audio alone will not reach everyone — loud environments, hearing-impaired occupants, spaces where hearing protection is worn — LCD endpoints carry the message as text. With GCK software that text is synchronised with the audible announcement and ADA compliant. In schools and public buildings the visual side frequently closes the compliance gap.

Scale and the EDU variant

GLOBALCOM runs on existing network infrastructure, so it grows with the estate rather than being replaced. Johnson County Community College covers a 234-acre campus and 20 buildings, reaching everything in seconds.

GLOBALCOM.EDU is configured for school operation — bell schedules, period tones, classroom paging, and the lockdown and evacuation messaging that state requirements increasingly mandate. For a district standardising across campuses, one platform means one training burden rather than several.

Why this is a design engagement

Zone architecture, endpoint placement, message content, trigger logic, network capacity and the interfaces to fire alarm and access control all have to be settled before anything is ordered. In schools and public buildings there are usually specific state or local notification requirements, and those drive the design rather than follow it.

Bring us in at design stage

Zoning, endpoint placement and the interfaces to other building systems are cheapest to get right before construction closes. A notification system retrofitted after inspection costs more and covers less.
