Crestron introduces Multiview with NVX AV-Over-IP Technology

Crestron Unveils the Next Generation of AV-over-IP: The DM NVX® 384

Crestron Multiview enables the configuration of up to six video sources in fixed layouts, offering the flexibility and scalability of 18 different compositions.

Crestron Advances Content Distribution with Multiview

Late last year, Crestron rolled out the new NVX encoder/decoder — and this addition to our line of DM NVX® AV-over-IP technology solutions proved to be extremely popular. This encoder/decoder comes packed with features, including HDMI® and USB-C® connectivity, 4x1 input switching, support for 5K resolution displays, enterprise-grade security, and Pixel Perfect Processing technology, which provides flawless video transport in all applications at incredibly low latency.

Crestron announced the addition of Multiview functionality during the InfoComm® 2025 trade show. This feature allows users to distribute content from multiple sources and view each image on a single display in various fixed compositions.

With Multiview, you can display up to six content sources simultaneously on one screen in different layouts. This expands the capabilities of large-format displays, making them ideal for use in command-and-control centers, bars and restaurants, as well as educational environments.

"Information drives organizations today. The ability to share content effortlessly and securely is essential for the growth and success of teams across all industries. Our expanded content distribution offerings ensure that organizations can meet the demands of any scenario, from simple BYOD spaces to complex AV-over-IP environments, all while maintaining unparalleled performance and reliability," said Brad Hintze, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at Crestron. "These solutions empower teams to communicate and collaborate more effectively, regardless of the scale or complexity of their AV requirements."

Kevin Dry, Group Product Manager of AV Solutions at Crestron, added, "There was a courtroom in California that specifically requested this feature. From that prototype, we developed the DM NVX Multiview solution for broad release, as it is beneficial for a wide variety of sectors."

Having every video content feed packaged in a single device simplifies the system while reducing failure points without adding any latency.

The Features of the DM NVX 384

In addition to the DM NVX 384 encoder/decoder functionality — and the fact that it’s been painstakingly engineered to ensure it’s scalable, flexible, efficient, and secure — there are some other key features that stand out:

  • USB-C Connectivity — “There’s been a huge demand for this,” says Delix Alex, Crestron’s director of product management for AV solutions. “Modern laptops, smartphones, and tablets all support USB-C. With the DM NVX 384, we have USB-C connectivity that will provide a video input, and also get USB connectivity peripherals — such as a webcam, speakerphone, or conferencing device — back to a user's laptop,” he notes. “Of course, the popularity of USB-C connectivity makes it a must for residential projects.”
  • Multi-input Switching — “In addition to the two USB-C connections, the device has two HDMI inputs, making it a four-input switcher,” says Alex. “DM NVX AV-over-IP units with multiple inputs have been vital for a lot of residential and marine projects,” he adds. “In other applications, when customers have a bunch of sources at a lectern, podium, and so on, it gives you the ability to switch those sources. It's very common in educational settings, for example.”
  • 5K Support — “5K is becoming fairly common with 21:9 and 32:9 displays, sometimes referred to as ‘super-wide’ and ‘ultra-wide displays,’” says Alex. “It first became a hot topic when Microsoft introduced Front Row, a content layout for participants in Microsoft Teams Rooms, which leverages a 21:9 configuration. That's great for maximizing on-screen real estate, but how do you transport and extend that? And that's where DM NVX 384 comes in.”
  • Multiview Video - allows the configuration of up to six sources in fixed layouts and the flexibility and scalability of 18 compositions. The DM NVX 384 decoder dynamically composes these sources into the preset layouts, which can be instantly recalled to suit the application’s needs.

Use Cases and More

The DM NVX system with Multiview has a wide range of applications beyond just courtrooms. One of the most obvious uses is in sports bars, where multiple games can be showcased on a large-format display. The efficiency of DM NVX's AV-over-IP technology makes it a significant advantage, appealing to sports fans who desire a similar experience in their home media rooms. For instance, consider the excitement during an annual college basketball tournament.

Additionally, the low latency of the DM NVX AV-over-IP system with Multiview makes it particularly suitable for sportsbooks. Command and control centers can also benefit greatly from Multiview, as can large lecture halls with educational applications. Imagine a panel discussion featuring remote speakers alongside a PowerPoint presentation for the audience. Essentially, any setup that involves a large-format display and requires multiple content streams will find this technology incredibly beneficial.

Video Sources and Layouts

Multiview enables the configuration of up to six sources in fixed layouts, while offering the flexibility and scalability of 18 different compositions. The DM NVX 384 decoder card dynamically combines these sources into preset layouts, which can be instantly recalled to meet the specific needs of any application.

By packaging all content feeds into a single device, the system becomes simpler and reduces potential points of failure without introducing any latency. This solution provides easy and intuitive audio control and routing, along with options for custom text overlays and borders for content identification. Although Multiview is a feature specific to the DM NVX 384, the primary stream can be decoded by any DM NVX 4K AV-over-IP receiver.

There’s another plus, says Dry: “The majority of POE smart switches and systems out there are a one-gig network, and that’s all you need for the DM NVX 384 Multiview. You don't have to buy new products and switches to get this to work. You can use your existing DM NVX AV-over-IP infrastructure.”

The Scalability of crestron DM NVX AV-over-IP is another plus.

Easily leverage your existing 1G network infrastructure, using both hardware and software.

Colors, Transitions, Borders — and Audio

It’s also a snap to change the look of your Multiview layout. “You can change the text color, you can change the background transparency, and you can change the background color,” says Dry. “The text overlay feature is very cool. You also have a border that you can call up, so you have the ability to circle one of the windows with a color of your choice as well, and you can change that color, too,” he adds. To change the stream in a window in your layout, you’re not restricted to just a “jump cut,” either: fades, zooms, wipes are just some of the available transitions.

“As for sound, you can call up the audio on any image that's on the screen,” says Dry. (You can also direct the audio to “follow” a border that’s moved from one image to another.) “We also pass multichannel audio — 5.1 surround sound — which is pretty unique to our system,” he adds. “And we found a way to do that all still over that gigabit pipeline.” And, of course, the scalability of DM NVX AV-over-IP is another plus. “You can add as many encoders and decoders as your network can support," adds Dry.

Content, Collaboration, and Room Control

The introduction of Multiview represents an enhancement to one of Crestron's key pillars: the three focus areas that guide our development of new solutions. DM NVX AV-over-IP advances our "content" pillar, providing solutions that allow for easy, intuitive, and high-quality sharing of content with groups or organizations, all while maintaining low latency.

The other pillars are collaboration and control. Collaboration is all about engaging with people, in person or remotely, using technology to create the most natural experience for more successful collaboration. Crestron control solutions are built to bring you simple user experiences that match the workflow of any space. It’s our belief that automated functions should simply work for anyone, simplifying technically complex spaces for any level of users and connecting the infrastructure for easy management and monitoring. You can read more about how those three pillars inform our mission at Crestron here.
