Product Overview

The Williams AV IC-2 is an interpreter control console that serves as the audio control center for simultaneous interpretation of one or more languages. Built for booth-based workflows, it lets one or two interpreters monitor floor or relay sources, activate their microphones with interlocked switching, and route the interpretation feed to one of two language groups. Designed to meet international standards for portable interpretation consoles, the IC-2 anchors both fixed installations and portable interpretation systems in courts, conference centers, and government facilities.

Product Description

As a stand-alone unit, the IC-2 supports presentation-style conferences of up to 14 languages where a floor language and a single relay language are in use. Each interpreter position (left and right) has independent rotary volume, bass, and treble controls, selectable floor/relay listening modes, and an interlocked Mic On button — one interpreter's microphone can only activate when the partner's is off, the handoff discipline professional interpretation teams require. A push-and-hold mute (cough) button rounds out the booth controls.

Connectivity is built for commercial AV integration. The rear panel provides a balanced XLR floor input with gain control, XLR and RCA outputs for both normal and relay language groups, floor feed-through switches, and a ground lift. A built-in distribution amplifier and mini mixer reduce the need for external equipment, and CAT 5 audio bus jacks (RJ45 in/out) cascade balanced line-level floor and relay audio to additional IC-2 consoles — expanding the interpreter count with a single patch cable instead of an external DA. Each interpreter side offers an XLR microphone input with switchable 12 VDC simplex power and rotary gain, plus 3.5 mm microphone, headphone, and combination headset jacks for consumer-style headsets.

The console's outputs feed Williams AV FM, infrared, or Digi-Wave transmitters, making it the front end for nearly any interpretation distribution method. Pair it with a Digi-Wave 400 interpretation system for portable deployments, or browse transmitters and receivers in the Williams AV collection at Creation Networks. Housed in a steel enclosure with a five-year warranty, the IC-2 is specified by AV system designers for daily-duty interpretation booths.

System Includes

  • (1) IC-2 interpreter control console
  • (1) WCA 091 25 ft CAT 5 cable
  • (1) TFP 044 power supply

Key Features

  • Two-Interpreter Console — Independent volume, tone, gain, and source controls for left and right interpreter positions support team interpretation from a single chassis.
  • Interlocked Microphone Switching — Mic On buttons are mutually exclusive so partner handoffs never produce doubled or dropped audio on the program feed.
  • Floor and Relay Monitoring — Selectable listening modes let interpreters work directly from the floor or from a relay (pivot) language for indirect language pairs.
  • Built-In DA and Mini Mixer — Internal distribution amplification and mixing eliminate outboard gear and simplify booth wiring for AV integrators.
  • CAT 5 Audio Cascading — RJ45 bus in/out distributes balanced line-level floor and relay audio to additional IC-2 consoles for multi-booth systems.
  • Professional I/O — Balanced XLR floor input (+19 dBu max), XLR/RCA normal and relay outputs, switchable 12 V simplex mic power, and ground lift handle real-world installation conditions.
  • Flexible Headset Options — XLR and 3.5 mm microphone inputs plus TRS and TRRS headphone/headset jacks accommodate broadcast headsets and consumer earbud-mic combinations alike.
  • Transmitter Agnostic — Line outputs feed Williams AV FM, infrared, or Digi-Wave transmitters for portable or fixed interpretation distribution.
  • Five-Year Warranty — Steel construction backed by 5 years of parts-and-labor coverage supports long service life in daily-use booths.

Typical Applications

  • Government space
  • Conference room
  • Auditorium
  • Broadcast studio
  • Commercial meeting space

Frequently Asked Questions

How many interpreters can one IC-2 support?

One console supports one or two interpreters with fully independent monitoring, gain, and tone controls. For more interpreters or additional language booths, cascade multiple IC-2 units over the CAT 5 audio bus.

What is relay interpretation and does the IC-2 support it?

Relay interpretation routes one interpreter's output as the source for another (a pivot language) when no direct interpreter exists for a language pair. The IC-2 supports it natively with selectable relay listening modes and a dedicated relay output group.

Which transmitters work with the IC-2?

The balanced XLR and RCA line outputs feed Williams AV FM, infrared, and Digi-Wave transmitters, as well as other line-level distribution equipment, for both portable events and fixed installations.

Can interpreters use their own headsets?

Yes. Each side accepts a professional XLR microphone (with switchable 12 V simplex power), a 3.5 mm electret microphone, or a 3.5 mm TRRS combination headset of the type used with phones and laptops.

How does the floor audio reach listeners who do not need interpretation?

Switchable floor feed-through routes the floor program directly to the Norm Out or Relay Out XLR jacks, so the untranslated channel can be transmitted alongside interpreted languages.

What installation considerations should AV integrators plan for?

The IC-2 is a desktop console powered by an external 18 VDC supply; plan a balanced XLR floor feed from the house mixer or DSP, line-level runs to your transmitters, and CAT 5 patch cables between consoles when cascading. A ground lift switch is provided to resolve hum from ground loops.

What warranty applies?

Williams AV backs the IC-2 with a five-year parts-and-labor warranty (90 days on accessories), and Creation Networks supports system design and after-sale service.
