Product Overview

The Tannoy VQ 64DF 2-way down-firing dual concentric mid-high loudspeaker is a high-performance installation enclosure designed to cover the area immediately below main flown loudspeaker arrays. This down-firing dual concentric loudspeaker uses a compact, modular cabinet so system designers can build tightly packed, seamless arrays without unsightly gaps between cabinets, or deploy it singly within large distributed systems. With its 60 x 40 degree pattern and point-source coherence, the VQ 64DF is well suited to large sports arenas, stadia, and auditoriums where consistent down-fill coverage matters.

Product Description

Tannoy VQ 64DF 2-way down-firing dual concentric mid-high loudspeaker in black

The VQ 64DF pairs a Dual Concentric 3.5-inch and 1.75-inch diaphragm compression driver array loaded into a single PSW waveguide for mid and high frequency reproduction. Tannoy's patented PSW waveguide technology aligns the acoustic centres of the drivers to produce a coherent wavefront at the horn throat, while the phase-coherent point-source design delivers exceptional transient response and precise dispersion control. As part of the VQ family, it lets integrators design arrays that combine mid-high (MH) horns, down-firing (DF) horns, and mid-bass (MB) enclosures for full-bandwidth coverage in demanding venues. The cabinet handles 200 watts continuous and 800 watts peak, producing a maximum SPL of 137 dB averaged and 143 dB peak, and it is user configurable for passive or bi-amp operation. The internally braced 18 mm birch plywood enclosure is finished in hard-wearing semi matt black paint with a powder-coated perforated steel grille, and carries twelve M10 flying inserts and two recessed handles, with optional vertical flyware rated to a 10:1 safety ratio. Input and link connections use Neutrik speakON NL4 and barrier strip connectors. Key Features

  • Down-Firing Coverage — Provides even coverage to areas immediately below main flown loudspeakers, filling the down-fill zone in arena and auditorium designs.
  • Dual Concentric Compression Drivers — A 3.5-inch and 1.75-inch diaphragm compression driver array reproduces mid and high frequencies from a single point source.
  • PSW Waveguide Technology — The patented PSW waveguide aligns acoustic centres for a coherent wavefront at the horn throat and precise pattern control.
  • 60 x 40 Dispersion — A controlled 60 x 40 degree pattern allows tightly packed clusters and predictable coverage mapping.
  • High Power Handling — Rated at 200 watts continuous and 800 watts peak with a maximum SPL of 143 dB peak for high-output installations.
  • Passive or Bi-Amp — User-configurable passive or bi-amp operation matches a range of amplification and DSP schemes.
  • Modular Cluster Design — The compact modular cabinet builds versatile arrays alongside VQ MH and MB enclosures without compromising performance.
  • Rugged Enclosure — An internally braced 18 mm birch plywood cabinet with semi matt black paint and a powder-coated steel grille withstands hard use.
  • Integrated Rigging — Twelve M10 flying inserts and two recessed handles, plus optional 10:1 vertical flyware, support safe array installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the VQ 64DF designed to do in an array?
It is a down-firing enclosure that fills the area immediately below main flown loudspeakers, providing even coverage to listeners directly beneath the array.

Can it be combined with other VQ products?
Yes. The VQ family lets you design arrays combining mid-high (MH) horns, down-firing (DF) horns, and mid-bass (MB) enclosures for full-bandwidth coverage in large venues.

Is it passive or active?
The VQ 64DF is user configurable for passive or bi-amp operation, with a 7 kHz crossover in either mode, so it adapts to your amplification and DSP design.

What coverage pattern does it provide?
It offers a controlled 60 x 40 degree dispersion that allows tightly packed clusters and predictable coverage mapping.

How is it rigged for installation?
The cabinet includes twelve M10 flying inserts and two recessed handles, with optional vertical flyware rated to a 10:1 safety ratio available separately.
