Product Overview

The Neumann KMS 105 Supercardioid Condenser Capsule (Nickel) — SKU 008474 — is a professional wireless capsule head designed exclusively for use with the Sennheiser SKM 5200 and SKM 5000 handheld transmitters. Derived from Neumann's KMS 105 wired supercardioid stage microphone, this capsule delivers tighter directional control and higher gain before feedback than the cardioid KMS 104, making it the preferred choice for high-SPL live vocal, broadcast, and theatrical wireless deployments. The supercardioid polar pattern offers a narrow front acceptance angle with strong side and rear rejection, suited to demanding stage environments where multiple open microphone channels increase feedback risk.

Product Description

The Neumann KK 105 S (nickel) capsule head for the Sennheiser 5000/5200 Series is built on the same capsule technology as the Neumann KMS 105 wired stage microphone, using the K 105 element developed from the K 50 pressure gradient transducer found in the KM 150 and KM 185 reference microphones. Its supercardioid polar pattern is engineered using a single polar pattern design that maintains consistent uniformity across the full 80 Hz–20 kHz frequency range, providing stable, predictable off-axis rejection at all frequencies — a key factor in multi-channel live and broadcast wireless systems. Maximum SPL handling is rated at 150 dB (THD 0.5%), and the capsule's multi-level acoustic filter of fine wire gauze provides balanced pop protection while maintaining open, natural high-frequency response. The expanded-pore foam structure also protects against extreme moisture. The capsule head mates directly to SKM 5200 and SKM 5000 transmitter bodies. A large nylon transport bag is included. This is a special-order item.

Key Features

  • Neumann KMS 105 Supercardioid Capsule Lineage — Derived from the K 105 pressure gradient transducer used in KM 150 and KM 185 reference microphones.
  • Supercardioid Polar Pattern — Tighter directional control than cardioid; maximizes front pickup and minimizes side and rear leakage for higher gain before feedback.
  • Uniform Polar Response Across Full Bandwidth — Single polar pattern design maintains consistent off-axis rejection from 80 Hz to 20 kHz.
  • 150 dB Max SPL (THD 0.5%) — Handles the highest-SPL vocal and instrument sources without distortion.
  • Multi-Level Wire Gauze Acoustic Filter — Balanced pop protection with minimal high-frequency attenuation.
  • Moisture-Resistant Foam Structure — Expanded-pore foam keeps humidity and condensation away from the condenser element.
  • SKM 5200 / SKM 5000 Compatible — Direct-fit capsule head, no adapters required.
  • Nickel Finish — Matches nickel SKM 5200 and SKM 5000 transmitter bodies.
  • Includes Nylon Carry Bag — Large bag for capsule, transmitter, and accessories.

Typical Applications

  • House of worship lead vocal wireless in high-SPL environments
  • Broadcast studio and ENG handheld wireless microphone
  • Live theatre and performing arts wireless vocal systems
  • Auditorium and concert hall wireless productions

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose the KMS 105 supercardioid over the KMS 104 cardioid?
Choose the KMS 105 when operating in louder stage environments, running more simultaneous open wireless channels, or when maximum rejection of side and rear sound sources is needed. The KMS 104 cardioid suits vocalists with wider movement patterns in lower-SPL settings.
Is the KMS 105 compatible with the SKM 5200-II?
Yes. Compatible with SKM 5200, SKM 5200-II, SKM 5000, and SKM 5000-II. Not compatible with other Sennheiser wireless platform series.
Does the wire gauze grille provide adequate pop protection for live vocal use?
Yes for most applications. For extremely high-SPL vocalists or outdoor environments with wind, the KK 105 HD variant with integrated foam pop protection is available as an alternative.
What is the lead time for this special-order item?
Lead times vary. Contact Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net for current availability.
What warranty applies?
Standard 2-year Neumann / Sennheiser warranty on capsule accessories.
