The Salamander RM/VS/2U is a 2U vented rack shelf measuring 14.5 in deep. It creates a flat rack position for AV appliances that have no rack ears, with ventilation slots that let heat pass through rather than collect under the device.

Most conference room equipment is not rack format. Wireless presentation receivers, small codecs, network appliances, and control processors ship as standalone boxes, and without a shelf they end up resting on top of other equipment — blocking its ventilation and making both devices difficult to service.

A vented shelf gives each appliance a defined rack position at a known height, so cable dressing is orderly and equipment can be removed individually. The 14.5 in depth accommodates most small appliances with room behind for connectors, and the ventilation pattern keeps the shelf from trapping heat against the device above it.
