Plenty of organizations will not put a video codec on wireless — either because call quality suffers under contention, or because security policy requires wired connection for room systems. That creates a problem for mobile carts: the network cable has to come from somewhere, and an unmanaged patch lead gets damaged fast when a cart moves daily.

A retractable reel solves it the same way the power reel does. Twenty feet of payout reaches a room data outlet from a cart positioned normally, and retraction keeps the cable off the floor between uses. The 36-inch pigtail terminates at the cart end for connection to the codec or switch.
