Product Overview
The QSC QIO-S4 is a Q-SYS network serial expander that brings RS-232/422/485 device control onto the Q-SYS network. As a Q-SYS network serial port expander, it lets a Core send and receive serial commands to displays, projectors, matrix switchers, and other controllable devices in a conference room or boardroom over standard Ethernet, eliminating long serial cable runs to the rack. It is natively managed in Q-SYS Designer Software, making serial control a configurable part of AV system integration.
Product Description

The QIO-S4 provides four bi-directional RS-232 serial ports, one of which is also compatible with RS-422 and RS-485, so a single expander can control multiple serial devices with mixed protocol requirements. Like the rest of the QIO platform, it connects to the Q-SYS network over standard gigabit Ethernet as a Q-LAN device and is powered by PoE or 24 VDC, with daisy-chainable power and pass-through Ethernet so multiple QIO peripherals can share a switch port. The compact quarter-rack-width chassis can be surface-mounted under a table or on a wall, or rack-mounted with the optional QIO-RMK tray. Native integration into Q-SYS Designer Software means serial strings are configured and triggered within the same design that handles audio and control.
Key Features
- Four Bi-Directional Serial Ports — Four RS-232 ports, with one port also supporting RS-422 and RS-485, control multiple serial devices from a single expander.
- Native Q-SYS Integration — The expander appears in Q-SYS Designer Software, so serial control is configured alongside audio and other control in one design.
- Network-Distributed Control — Serial control runs over standard gigabit Ethernet as a Q-LAN device, placing ports near the equipment they control.
- Flexible Power — PoE or 24 VDC operation with daisy-chainable power and pass-through Ethernet.
- Compact Mounting — A quarter-rack-width chassis supports under-table or on-wall surface mounting and an optional 19-inch rack tray.
Typical Applications
- Conference room and boardroom display, projector, and switcher control
- Training rooms and multi-purpose rooms
- Government and commercial meeting spaces
