What is the Magewell Pro Convert SDI Plus NDI encoder?

The Magewell Pro Convert SDI Plus is a standalone 3G-SDI to NDI encoder that converts one SDI camera or production feed into a full-bandwidth NDI High Bandwidth stream with very low latency. It accepts SD, HD and 3G-SDI up to 2048×1080 60p with 16 channels of embedded audio, and passes the signal on through a BNC loop-through. It is the practical way to move existing SDI cameras into NDI production and AV-over-IP systems in studios, houses of worship and meeting spaces.

How does the Magewell Pro Convert SDI Plus work?

The encoder accepts SD, HD and 3G-SDI (Level A and B) up to 2K60, receiving 3G-SDI over cable runs up to 200 m, and passes the signal unchanged to the next device on the BNC loop-through so it can sit inline with a switcher, recorder or monitor. It encodes NDI High Bandwidth at up to 2048×1080 60p with all 16 channels of SDI audio carried into the stream, supports HDR HLG, and can output a native or custom resolution and a reduced frame rate when bandwidth matters.

Any NDI receiver on the network — production switchers, vMix, OBS, NDI Studio Monitor and decoders — can use the source. The Mini-DIN-8 port drives a tally light and controls PTZ cameras over NDI using VISCA, VISCA UDP, PELCO-P or PELCO-D, which suits remotely operated camera positions. The unit detects the input and takes a DHCP address automatically, is managed through its web interface, Magewell Control Hub or HTTP APIs, and runs on 802.3af PoE or its 5 V supply. Magewell publishes Q-SYS and Crestron plugins for the Pro Convert encoders.
