What is the Magewell Ultra Stream HDMI streaming encoder?

The Magewell Ultra Stream HDMI is a simple standalone HDMI streaming and recording box that sends one HDMI source to YouTube, Facebook, Twitch or a custom RTMP server without a computer. It accepts HDMI up to 4K, streams and records at up to 1080p60, and passes the source to a local display through HDMI loop-through. It suits rooms where staff need to stream a presentation or camera with one button, controlled from a phone app.

How does the Magewell Ultra Stream HDMI work?

The unit accepts HDMI 1.4a or DVI-D up to 4096×2160 30p (4:4:4) or 60p (4:2:0) with a custom EDID, and loops the signal out to a display. It encodes H.264 or H.265 at up to 1080p60 with a main stream up to 8 Mbps and a sub stream up to 2 Mbps, plus two-channel AAC audio from the HDMI signal or the 3.5 mm microphone input, with a headphone output for monitoring. It streams to up to two destinations at once over RTMP, RTMPS or RTSP, with native YouTube, Facebook and Twitch support.

Recordings save as MP4 to a USB flash drive, internal storage or a paired phone, at the same time as streaming. Staff start and stop streaming and recording from the front button or the Magewell mobile app over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The box connects by Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi or a USB 3G/4G modem and runs from a 5 V supply.
