The Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro is a USB-C capture device that brings one HDMI source into a computer at up to 4096×2160 60 fps 4:4:4 using a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connection. It passes the source to a local display through HDMI loop-through, captures 10-bit and HDR content through the SDK, and works driver-free as a webcam in Zoom, Teams, OBS and other software. It is Magewell's highest-performance USB capture device for 4K presentation, production and streaming PCs.
How does the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro work?
A 600 MHz HDMI 2.0 receiver accepts input and loop-through up to 4K60 4:4:4 with a custom EDID and up to eight channels of embedded audio. A processing pipeline of about 700 megapixels per second crops, scales, deinterlaces and converts color format and frame rate on the device, and delivers capture formats up to 4096×2160, or high frame rates up to 240 fps at lower resolutions, with 10-bit output formats including P010 and Y210.
Full 4K60 capture requires a host with a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port; on slower USB ports the device still works at reduced resolution or frame rate. The 3.5 mm jack takes a microphone and drives headphones, so the device also acts as a USB audio interface. The computer sees a standard UVC and UAC device on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS, and the MWCapture SDK supports custom applications. It is bus-powered and rated for 24/7 operation.
