The Magewell USB Capture SDI Gen 2 is a compact, driver-free USB capture dongle that brings one SD, HD or 3G-SDI signal into a computer as a standard webcam. It captures up to 2048×1080 with embedded audio and works with Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams, OBS and any UVC-compatible software on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS. It is the simplest way to use a professional SDI camera in a conference room or streaming PC.
How does the Magewell USB Capture SDI Gen 2 work?
The dongle accepts SD, HD and 3G-SDI on a BNC input, receiving 3G-SDI over cable runs up to 150 m, with up to eight channels of embedded audio. Its onboard processing pipeline handles cropping, scaling, deinterlacing, aspect-ratio, color-format and frame-rate conversion, flip and mirror before the video reaches the computer, so host CPU load stays low. It delivers up to 2048×1080 at frame rates up to 120 fps with two channels of 48 kHz audio over USB 3.0, and falls back to USB 2.0 ports at reduced rates.
The computer sees it as a UVC and UAC device, so no drivers are needed for conferencing, recording or streaming software. The free USB Capture Utility sets capture parameters and updates firmware, and the MWCapture SDK supports custom applications on Windows, Linux and macOS. It is bus-powered, draws about 2.5 W and is rated for continuous 24/7 operation.
