Product Overview

The Lightware MX2M-4TPX-IB is a four-port AVX SDVoE input board for the MX2M modular matrix switcher family, providing four RJ45 TPX inputs compatible with the full range of Lightware TPX transmitters and SDVoE-compliant third-party transmitter devices. Each port carries uncompressed HDMI 2.0 video up to 4096x2048@60Hz 4:4:4 (600 MHz pixel clock), multi-channel audio, RS-232, IR, and Ethernet over a single CAT6A cable at 10GBase-T to distances up to 100 meters. The board features HDCP 2.3 compliance with HDCP 1.4 cross-conversion, hot-swap support for live system maintenance, and PoE (IEEE 802.3af) remote powering for connected TPX extenders at up to 25.4W per port. It is available from Creation Networks for MX2M frame expansions and new system builds.

Product Description

The MX2M-4TPX-IB installs into the MX2M modular matrix frame and adds four SDVoE-standard TPX inputs to the system’s switching fabric. On each port, the board de-embeds 8-channel LPCM and IEC 61937 audio formats to the MX2M’s Audio layer, allowing independent audio routing separate from the video crosspoint. Command injection capabilities for CEC, RS-232, and IR on each port enable control signal distribution to connected source-end transmitter devices without separate control wiring. The board is fully compatible with the Christie Terra projector and other SDVoE ecosystem devices.

The board supports Dolby Vision at low latency (less than 0.1 ms signal latency at 1080p60 via 0.08 ms video delay) and handles all standard VESA, CEA, and custom resolutions up to 600 MHz. Hot-swap capability allows the board to be inserted or removed from an operational MX2M frame without system downtime, reducing maintenance risk in broadcast and permanent installation environments. The MX2M-4TPX-IB is enclosed in 1.5 mm steel and cooled through the matrix frame airflow; no dedicated board cooling is required.

Key Features

  • 4x SDVoE TPX Inputs (10GBase-T) — Each RJ45 port accepts video, audio, RS-232, IR, and Ethernet from Lightware TPX transmitters and SDVoE-compliant third-party sources.
  • 4K60 4:4:4 at up to 100m — Supports 4096x2048@60Hz 4:4:4 and 3840x2160@60Hz 4:4:4 over CAT6A to 100 meters per port.
  • HDCP 2.3 with 1.4 Cross-Conversion — Handles HDCP 2.3 and HDCP 1.4 sources with automatic cross-conversion for mixed protection environments.
  • PoE Remote Powering at 25.4W per Port — Powers connected TPX transmitters over the CAT6A link; no separate power supply required at the transmitter.
  • Audio De-embedding to MX2M Audio Layer — Extracts 8-channel LPCM and IEC 61937 formats for independent routing in the MX2M’s audio switching fabric.
  • Less than 0.1 ms Signal Latency — 0.08 ms video delay at 1080p60; suitable for live production and monitoring systems.
  • Dolby Vision Support — Low-latency Dolby Vision pass-through in the HDMI 2.0 signal stream.
  • Hot-Swap Support — Board can be inserted or removed from an operating MX2M frame without powering down the matrix.
  • CEC, RS-232, and IR Command Injection — Per-port control signal injection enables source device control from the matrix without separate control infrastructure.
  • Deep Color Support — 24, 30, and 36-bit RGB and YCbCr 4:4:4 signal passthrough across all input ports.

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio and control center matrix input expansion
  • Conference room and boardroom multi-source SDVoE input aggregation
  • Auditorium and large venue source input infrastructure
  • Government space AV routing systems using MX2M
  • Training room matrix input for distributed source connections

Frequently Asked Questions

Which MX2M frame sizes accept the MX2M-4TPX-IB?
The MX2M-4TPX-IB is compatible with all MX2M modular matrix frame sizes. Contact Creation Networks for frame configuration and slot availability guidance.
Can it work with non-Lightware SDVoE transmitters?
Yes. The board is compatible with SDVoE-compliant third-party transmitters in addition to Lightware TPX transmitters. Christie Terra projectors are specifically called out as a compatible device. Verify interoperability with specific third-party devices prior to deployment.
What happens to audio when switching video on the MX2M?
The MX2M-4TPX-IB de-embeds audio to the MX2M Audio layer independently from the video crosspoint. Video and audio can be switched independently within the MX2M system, allowing, for example, audio follow or breakaway configurations.
Is the board user-installable or does it require a technician?
The board supports hot-swap, meaning it can be inserted and removed from an operational MX2M frame. Physical installation is straightforward for a qualified AV technician. Software configuration is performed via the Lightware Device Controller application.
What cable category is required for the 100m distance?
CAT6A or better is required for 10GBase-T operation at 100m. CAT5e or CAT6 may limit maximum cable length and should be verified against 10GBase-T specifications for the specific installation.
Does the board support HDMI 1.4 sources connected via TPX transmitters?
Yes. The board is HDMI 2.0, HDMI 1.x, and DVI compatible through the TPX transmitter connection, accommodating legacy source devices alongside 4K HDMI 2.0 sources.
