Product Overview

The Lab Gruppen D 80:4L is an 8,000W 4-channel installation amplifier with onboard Lake DSP and Dante digital audio networking in a 2U rack-mount chassis. Purpose-built for demanding commercial sound installations in arenas, performing arts centers, theme parks, and large commercial meeting spaces, it delivers the D Series Lake processing platform in a mid-range power configuration. The Lab Gruppen D 80:4L 4-channel Lake DSP amplifier with Dante provides AV integrators with comprehensive loudspeaker management, flexible audio networking, and intelligent power allocation for installations where a single amplifier must handle mixed zone power requirements efficiently.

Product Description

The D 80:4L shares the same Class-TD output stage and Lake DSP architecture as the full D Series Lake lineup, scaled to 8,000W total burst power. Rational Power Management (RPM) governs power allocation: on the D 80:4L, one channel can be scaled up to 5,900W single-channel maximum output while remaining power is distributed across the other three channels, providing the flexibility to drive power-hungry subwoofers or high-SPL zones alongside lower-demand distributed audio zones from the same unit.

Each of the four output channels has a dedicated Lake processing module with Classic, linear-phase, and FIR crossover options, parametric EQ, delay, and LimiterMax peak and RMS limiters. Audio inputs are independently selectable per channel from four balanced analog inputs with Iso-Float ground isolation, four AES/EBU digital inputs supporting up to 192 kHz at 24-bit, or eight channels of dual-redundant Dante audio with AES67 support. Dual RJ45 Ethernet ports carry both Lake Controller and Dante Controller traffic, and the amplifier integrates with Q-Sys, MediaMatrix, and other control platforms over UDP. CAFE system design tools provide Equipment Specification Predictor functionality for precise mains, cooling, and UPS planning. Mains features include Under-Voltage Limiting (UVL), a Breaker Emulation Limiter (BEL) set at 15A threshold, Power Factor Correction greater than 0.98, and a regulated switch-mode power supply for stable output across mains voltage variations. The 2U rack-mount chassis includes per-channel front-panel touch mute buttons, tri-color LED status indicators, a removable dust filter, and rear terminal block outputs rated at 1000V/76A.

Key Features

  • 8,000W Total Burst Power with RPM — One channel can scale to 5,900W single-channel maximum; power redistributed freely across all four channels via RPM.
  • Full Lake DSP Per Channel — Classic/linear-phase/FIR crossover, parametric EQ, delay, and LimiterMax limiters on each of the four output channels.
  • 8x8 Dual-Redundant Dante — AES67-compliant Dante networking with daisy-chain and redundant network support, configurable latency from 0.25ms.
  • Per-Channel Input Routing — Selectable from analog (Iso-Float), AES3 digital, or Dante per channel with programmable analog failover.
  • Class-TD Output Stage — Delivers Class-A/B audio quality at Class-D efficiency using the Intercooler high-efficiency cooling system.
  • UVL and BEL Power Management — Under-Voltage Limiting ensures continued operation during supply drops; Breaker Emulation Limiter protects mains circuit breakers.
  • Q-Sys and MediaMatrix Integration — Third-party control via UDP Ethernet protocol for integration into enterprise AV control systems.
  • CAFE Design Tools — Equipment Specification Predictor for load modeling, heat output, and infrastructure sizing during the design phase.
  • 2U Rack-Mount, Rear-Support Brackets — 483 x 88 x 424mm with front-to-rear airflow, touch-button front panel, and dust filter for clean installation environments.
  • Voice Alarm Ready — On-board surveillance, load monitoring, and redundant input support for PA/VA compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does RPM work on the D 80:4L specifically?

A: One channel on the D 80:4L can be configured via RPM to deliver up to 5,900W single-channel maximum output. The remaining 8,000W total burst pool is then distributed across the other three channels based on your configuration, allowing a single amplifier to drive both high-demand and low-demand zones.

Q: Does the D 80:4L support Hi-Z speaker distribution at 70V or 100V?

A: Yes. Each output channel operates in Lo-Z mode (2–16 ohms) or Hi-Z mode at 70V or 100V constant voltage, making it compatible with distributed commercial speaker systems as well as direct-coupled installations.

Q: What control systems can be used to manage the D 80:4L remotely?

A: Lake Controller software handles DSP configuration and device monitoring. Dante Controller manages Dante audio routing. For third-party control, the amplifier integrates with Q-Sys, MediaMatrix, and other systems via a UDP Ethernet protocol, with Dante interoperability available through standard Dante ecosystem tools.

Q: What is the propagation delay through the D 80:4L?

A: Propagation delay is 1.61ms from AES3 input at 96 kHz and 1.68ms from analog input. Dante network latency is configurable at 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, or 5.0ms depending on network topology and requirements.

Q: What are the mains power requirements for the D 80:4L?

A: The D 80:4L operates on 100–240V AC (70–265V operational range), 50–60 Hz, with a Breaker Emulation Limiter set at 15A threshold. It includes Power Factor Correction greater than 0.98 and a regulated switch-mode power supply for stable output across varying mains conditions.

Q: Is the D 80:4L suitable for voice alarm and mass notification applications?

A: The amplifier includes on-board load monitoring, system surveillance, and redundant audio input support. These capabilities align with PA/VA system design requirements. Site-specific certification depends on the overall system design and local code requirements.

Q: What warranty and support is available for this product?

A: Lab Gruppen products carry the manufacturer's standard warranty. Creation Networks provides pre-sales support for specification and system design, and can assist with connecting customers to authorized Lab Gruppen service and support resources.
