Product Overview

The Adder SFP-SM-LC is a single-mode 1Gbps fiber SFP module with LC connectors, built to carry Adder KVM-over-IP links across long distances. Using a 1310nm FP laser, this single-mode fiber SFP transceiver transmits and receives optical data over single-mode fiber links of up to 20km, and is compliant with the SFP MSA and SFF-8472 specifications. It is the long-reach option for the SFP cages on ADDERLink INFINITY endpoints and other Adder 1GbE KVM hardware.

Product Description

Copper CATx links top out at 100 meters per hop, and electrically noisy or inter-building paths can compromise them well before that. The SFP-SM-LC moves the link onto single-mode fiber, which is immune to electromagnetic interference and spans distances copper cannot approach — up to 20 kilometers on a single run.

That reach makes it the natural choice when the computer room and the operator position sit in different buildings on a campus, or when a facility's fiber backbone is the only path between equipment spaces. The module's 1310nm FP laser and duplex LC connectors terminate onto standard single-mode fiber plant, and compliance with the SFP MSA and SFF-8472 (digital diagnostics) specifications keeps it interoperable with standard 1GbE SFP cages.

In an ADDERLink INFINITY deployment, the same endpoint hardware can run copper today and fiber tomorrow — swapping the transceiver changes the link medium without touching the extender. Sites with shorter fiber runs over multi-mode plant can use the companion SFP-MM-LC module, while copper runs use the SFP-CATX-RJ45. Specifying Adder's own optics keeps the entire KVM signal path under a single vendor's support.
