Product Overview

The Adder CATX-CONSOLE is a serial computer access module (CAM) that provides RS232 console connectivity to target machines through an Adder CATx KVM system. Used in conjunction with the ADDERView CATxIP 5000 KVM-over-IP switch, this serial console access module functions as a serial console (sometimes known as a terminal server), giving administrators out-of-band access to a target's command line interface as well as console access to network switches. Note that the CATX-CONSOLE only works from the ADDERView CATxIP 5000.

Product Description

Most CAMs in the Adder range carry keyboard, video, and mouse signals; the CATX-CONSOLE instead carries serial. That makes it the module to reach for when the device on the other end is managed through a console port rather than a graphical session — network switches, routers, and servers exposing a command line interface over RS232.

Deployed with the ADDERView CATxIP 5000, the module turns ports on the KVM switch into serial console connections, so the same switch that delivers BIOS-level KVM control of servers can also deliver out-of-band CLI access to network infrastructure. Serial interfaces can additionally be used for server control or power control where serial configuration is available. The module presents a D-Sub 9-way female connector to the target device and an RJ45 socket toward the CATx cabling, and carries two status indicators: green for power present and yellow for signal activity, which simplifies fault-finding in dense racks.
