Product Overview
The Adder AVSD1004-US is an EAL4+ certified secure KVM switch that shares one keyboard, dual-link DVI-I monitor, mouse, and audio set across four computers on separated high- and low-security networks. Built for red/black network isolation, this 4-port USB DVI secure KVM switch prevents data from leaking between ports, escaping to the outside world, or being stored inside the device. For agencies and contractors that require a Common Criteria certified KVM switch at the desktop, the AdderView Secure Digital line carries both EAL4+ and EAL2+ certification.
Product Description
Where workstations must touch networks of differing classification, the switching hardware itself becomes part of the security boundary. The AdderView Secure Digital AVSD1004 was independently tested against Common Criteria and achieves Evaluation Assurance Level 4+, with isolation guaranteed by hardware rather than trust in microprocessor software.

Uni-directional data paths for keyboard and mouse are implemented as hard-wired data diodes, protecting against timing analysis and forced-malfunction attacks. The keyboard and mouse processor is powered down and reset at every switchover so no shared RAM survives a channel change, and all data buffers are actively cleared after use. Each port's circuitry is independently powered from its own USB lead, blocking power-line signaling between systems, and 60dB crosstalk isolation with extensive case and circuit shielding ensures less than 1/1000th of any signal can reach another computer.

One-time programmable storage replaces flash memory in all security-critical areas, eliminating subversive reprogramming, and the unit continuously self-checks — pausing operation and lighting an error indicator on any unanticipated interaction. USB ports accept keyboards and mice only; storage devices are rejected and hotkey functions are disabled. There are no microphone connections, removing a crosstalk recording path. Video runs at full dual-link DVI bandwidth up to 2560x1600@60Hz, with single-link digital and analog support to 1920x1200@60Hz through the DVI-I interface, and the low-order video bit is randomized to defeat snooping. A 2-port version is also available; see the Adder Technology collection at Creation Networks.
Key Features
- EAL4+ and EAL2+ Certified — Independently evaluated against Common Criteria for use between high- and low-security (red/black) networks.
- Hardwired Data Diodes — Uni-directional keyboard and mouse paths are enforced in circuitry, not software, defeating timing analysis and forced-malfunction attacks.
- No Shared RAM Between Ports — The HID processor powers down and resets at each switchover; buffers are actively cleared after use.
- One-Time Programmable Firmware — OTP storage replaces flash in all security-critical areas, preventing subversive reprogramming.
- 60dB Crosstalk Isolation — Extensive shielding ensures less than 1/1000th of any signal transfers between computers, with emissions-conscious enclosure design.
- Independent Port Power — Each port circuit is powered from its own USB lead, blocking power-line signaling between systems.
- Restricted USB and No Microphone Path — Only keyboards and mice are accepted, hotkeys are disabled, and microphone connections are omitted entirely.
- Continuous Self-Checking — Hardware and software must align before data flows; faults pause operation and illuminate an error light.
- Dual-Link DVI-I Video — Full-bandwidth digital video up to 2560x1600@60Hz, plus analog support to 1920x1200@60Hz, with low-order bit randomization.
- True Platform Independence — Works with PC, Sun, Apple, and other platforms using USB HID and DVI or VGA video.
Typical Applications
- Government space — desktop access to classified and unclassified networks from one certified console.
- Commercial meeting space — secure facilities where room systems on isolated networks must share an operator position.
- Training room — certified separation between live operational networks and training systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
What certifications does the AVSD1004-US hold?
The AdderView Secure Digital range is Common Criteria EAL4+ certified and also EAL2+ certified, with certificates published by the vendor. Verify acceptance with your accrediting authority before deployment.
Can it connect VGA computers?
Yes. The DVI-I interface supports analog video up to 1920x1200@60Hz via an appropriate DVI-I to VGA adapter, alongside digital DVI sources.
Why are keyboard hotkeys disabled?
Hotkey switching is intentionally disabled so the switch can only be controlled directly at the unit — channel changes cannot be triggered through a peripheral, removing a manipulation path.
Is there a microphone input?
No. Microphone connections are deliberately omitted to prevent low-level crosstalk noise from being recorded across domains. Audio is speaker output only.
How does the unit guard against firmware tampering?
Security-critical areas use one-time programmable storage instead of flash memory, so the firmware cannot be subversively reprogrammed, and the device continuously verifies its own operation.
Is a 2-port version available?
Yes. The AVSD1002-US offers the same certified architecture in a 2-port configuration. Both are available in the Adder Technology collection at Creation Networks.
