Horns exist to be heard over noise

A horn concentrates output into a defined pattern rather than spreading it, which is why it cuts through machinery, traffic and weather where a cone speaker simply gets lost. That same directivity means aiming matters: a horn pointed wrongly covers nothing useful and annoys everyone outside the target area.

Constant-directivity models hold their coverage pattern across frequency, which produces more intelligible speech at the edges of the pattern. In a large yard or concourse that is the difference between a page people can act on and noise.

Explosion-proof applications

UL-listed explosion-proof drivers and horn bells are specified for hazardous locations — fuel handling, chemical processing, grain. These are code-driven selections and the listing has to match the classification of the area. Confirm it before ordering.

Tap settings

Set the transformer tap from the coverage the area needs, not the speaker's maximum. Over-tapping wastes amplifier headroom; under-tapping leaves part of a site inaudible during a page, which for emergency notification is a compliance failure rather than an inconvenience.
