SoundTube IPD-SM500I-II IP-Addressable Dante Surface-Mount Speaker — Black
Product Overview
The SoundTube IPD-SM500I-II is a Dante®-enabled, IP-addressable surface-mount speaker that delivers low-latency digital audio, power, and control over a single standard Category cable connection to a PoE or PoE+ switch. Featuring a 5.25" polypropylene woofer and a 1" convex titanium tweeter with SoundTube’s proprietary BroadBeam® waveguide, the IPD-SM500I-II provides full-range audio reproduction in a compact ABS enclosure for commercial AV installations where network-based audio distribution, zone-based control, and software-configurable routing are required. Available in Black (IPD-SM500I-II-BK), the speaker includes SoundTube’s Stealth™ bracket mounting system for unlimited directional aiming and a low-profile installation footprint. UL 2043 and UL 60065 certified; CE and RoHS compliant.
Product Description
The IPD-SM500I-II is part of SoundTube’s STNet IP-Addressable and Dante series, a networked audio platform that eliminates conventional analog speaker wiring infrastructure by delivering audio, power, and control through standard Ethernet Category cable. Connection is made at the speaker via RJ45, and at the source end via the STNet-Switch or any standard PoE / PoE+ network switch, enabling audio system topology changes, zone reassignments, and volume control to be executed entirely through software—without running new wire.
The 5.25" polypropylene cone woofer incorporates a butyl rubber surround for durability and consistent performance across temperature and humidity ranges. The 1" convex titanium tweeter with BroadBeam® waveguide extends high-frequency dispersion to 75° horizontal and 90° vertical (±6dB at 2kHz), providing broad, even coverage from a compact surface-mount footprint. The 3.0 kHz crossover with second-order (12 dB/octave) high-pass and low-pass networks ensures smooth driver handoff. Frequency response extends from 60 Hz to 22 kHz (±10 dB) and maximum SPL at 1 meter is rated at 98 dB.
The IPD-SM500I-II operates via standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af) or PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) with a maximum draw of 30W from a standard PoE switch or 40W from the SoundTube STNet Switch II. Note: the IPD-SM500I-II is NOT compatible with PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) switches. The speaker may also be powered by an optional 24V DC barrel connector for non-PoE installations where a DC power supply is preferred.
SoundTube’s Stealth™ bracket mounting system is included and features a detachable mounting plate for premounting in wall or pole applications during pre-construction. The bracket provides unlimited directional aiming with a security knob to lock the speaker orientation and resist tampering after placement—a critical feature for public-facing commercial venues. The glass-fiber reinforced ABS enclosure (11.4"H × 8.36"W × 10.48"D) is compact enough for discreet installation in corridors, conference rooms, lobbies, retail interiors, and transportation environments.
Configuration and zone assignment are performed via software, making the IPD-SM500I-II well-suited for large-scale networked audio deployments where system flexibility, remote management, and scalability are essential. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What network switch is required for the IPD-SM500I-II?
A: The IPD-SM500I-II requires a standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af) or PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) switch capable of supplying at least 30W per port. The SoundTube STNet-Switch II is the recommended switch and supports up to 40W per port for this speaker. Standard enterprise PoE+ switches are also compatible. PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) switches are NOT compatible.
Q: Does the IPD-SM500I-II require Dante software or licenses to operate?
A: The IPD-SM500I-II uses Dante audio networking, which is compatible with Audinate’s Dante Controller (free software) for routing and configuration. No per-device license is required for the speaker itself. Dante-enabled sources and DSPs may have their own licensing requirements depending on the manufacturer.
Q: What is the maximum cable run length from the PoE switch to the IPD-SM500I-II?
A: Standard Ethernet cabling guidelines apply: maximum 100 meters (328 feet) of Cat5e or Cat6 cable from the PoE switch to the speaker. For longer runs, a PoE extender or intermediate switch is required.
Q: Can the IPD-SM500I-II be used without a PoE switch?
A: Yes. The speaker includes a 24V DC barrel connector input that allows powering from an external DC power supply in non-PoE environments. Audio signal is still delivered via the RJ45 Ethernet port.
Q: How are zones and volume levels configured for the IPD-SM500I-II?
A: Zone assignment, routing, and volume control are managed through software—either SoundTube’s STNet software or compatible Dante audio control platforms. No physical rewiring is required to change zone assignments; all configuration is performed remotely through the network.
Q: Is the IPD-SM500I-II suitable for outdoor installation?
A: The IPD-SM500I-II is designed for indoor commercial surface-mount applications. For outdoor installations requiring weatherproofing, the optional Black Weatherboot (WEATHERBOOT-S-BK) provides additional environmental protection. Contact Creation Networks for specific outdoor IP rating information.
Q: What is the coverage pattern of the IPD-SM500I-II?
A: The BroadBeam® waveguide produces a wide coverage pattern of 75° horizontal by 90° vertical (±6dB at 2kHz). The Stealth™ bracket system allows the speaker to be aimed in any direction to optimize coverage for the installation geometry. Contact a Creation Networks specialist at creationnetworks.net for coverage modeling and system design.
Q: Are replacement grilles available for the IPD-SM500I-II?
A: Yes. The replacement Black grille (GRL-SM500-II-BK) is available as an optional accessory. Contact Creation Networks for parts and service support.
