The Panamax SEP-200 service entrance protection is a whole-facility surge protection device installed at the electrical service entrance panel to defend against large voltage surges before they can reach AV rack equipment, major appliances, or sensitive electronic systems anywhere in the building. As the first line of defense in a layered surge protection strategy, the SEP-200 intercepts surges at the main panel — where utility power enters the facility — reducing the surge energy that downstream rack-level power conditioners and AV equipment must absorb. Product Description

High-voltage surges reach AV systems via two primary paths: through the AC power lines from the utility grid, and through signal lines (coaxial, LAN, telephone). Rack-level power conditioners address signal lines and provide secondary protection on the AC path, but they are not rated to absorb the largest surge events that can occur during direct or nearby lightning strikes, utility switching transients, or major equipment switching within the facility. The SEP-200 addresses the AC power path at the highest-energy point — the service entrance — where it can absorb the bulk of a large surge event before any energy propagates into the building's branch circuits.

Installation is at the main electrical panel by a licensed electrician. The SEP-200 connects via three wires plus a ground conductor (stranded bare ends, 19-inch leads) to the main service panel in a standard parallel configuration. It is rated for 120/240V single-phase service at 50/60 Hz, meets ANSI C62.41 requirements, and can be installed indoors or outdoors. The all-metal housing features a flame-resistant design and built-in diagnostics indicators.
