Product Overview

The Martin Audio CDD8W is an ultra-compact passive two-way loudspeaker built around an 8" (200mm) LF / 1" (25mm) exit HF Coaxial Differential Dispersion driver, delivering full-range performance from a remarkably small white enclosure. Engineered for commercial installations where minimal visual impact is a priority alongside consistent audio coverage, the CDD8W is suited to bars, restaurants, hotels, museums, convention centres, and houses of worship. Its compact footprint and sleek lines allow it to blend into architectural interiors, and it functions equally well as a standalone speaker or as an infill unit within larger CDD series distributed systems. Product Description

The Martin Audio CDD8W passive on-wall loudspeaker occupies 14 litres of enclosure volume while delivering 117dB continuous SPL and a frequency response extending from 70Hz to 20kHz within ±3dB. The coaxial driver configuration achieves point-source summation of the LF and HF sections, maintaining consistent frequency response across the 110°–80° horizontal and 60° vertical coverage pattern. A 2.3kHz passive crossover network is integrated within the UPM Formi composite enclosure, and the user-rotatable drive unit allows dispersion orientation to be switched between horizontal and vertical in the field by simply removing the screw-free perforated steel grille. With 200W AES power handling (800W peak) and 94dB sensitivity, the CDD8W pairs effectively with mid-range power amplifiers common in commercial AV installations. Input and link output connections use low-profile 13A push-lock terminals, allowing daisy-chain wiring in distributed speaker systems. Six M6 inserts on the rear face of the enclosure accept optional Martin Audio wall and ceiling brackets, giving installers surface-mount flexibility in confined spaces. When the CDD8W is deployed alongside CDD10 or CDD12 models in a larger system, it serves as an infill loudspeaker — addressing coverage gaps in delay zones, balconies, or under-balcony positions. For installations requiring a black finish, the acoustically identical CDD8B is available. All CDD8 products are stocked at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • Ultra-Compact 14-Litre Enclosure — Minimal physical footprint for discreet surface mounting in visually sensitive architectural spaces.
  • Coaxial Differential Dispersion Technology — Point-source driver summation eliminates off-axis tonal variation in the crossover region for consistent coverage.
  • User-Rotatable Drive Unit — 110°–80° horizontal or 60° vertical dispersion, selectable in the field without tools.
  • 200W AES / 800W Peak Power Handling — Suitable for commercial foreground and background music levels from mid-range amplifiers.
  • 94dB Sensitivity, 117dB Continuous SPL — Efficient performance from low amplifier power in rooms with moderate ambient noise levels.
  • 2.3kHz Passive Crossover — Integrated crossover eliminates the need for external crossover hardware in standard two-way configurations.
  • Infill System Capability — Compatible as an infill speaker in distributed systems alongside CDD10 and CDD12 models for coverage gap-filling.
  • Six Rear M6 Inserts — Accepts optional Martin Audio wall and ceiling brackets for flexible surface mounting.
  • Screw-Free Perforated Steel Grille — Tool-free grille removal simplifies drive unit rotation during installation and service.
  • White (RAL9016) UPM Formi Enclosure — Rigid composite construction minimizes enclosure resonance; black variant available as CDD8B.

Typical Applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What amplifier power does the CDD8W require?
The CDD8W is rated at 200W AES continuous with 800W peak. An amplifier delivering 300–500W into 8Ω provides adequate headroom for commercial foreground and background applications. For optimized performance, Martin Audio iKON amplifiers with DX4.0 controller presets are recommended.
Can the CDD8W be used as an infill speaker in a larger system?
Yes. Martin Audio specifically positions the CDD8W as an infill loudspeaker for distributed systems using CDD10 or CDD12 as primary speakers. The matching CDD driver technology ensures consistent tonal character across all positions in the system.
How does the user-rotatable drive unit work?
Removing the screw-free perforated steel grille exposes the coaxial drive unit, which can be rotated within the enclosure to switch between 110°–80° horizontal or 60° vertical dispersion. No tools are required for the rotation itself; only grille removal is needed.
Is the CDD8W suitable for background music in hotel lobbies?
Yes. The CDD8W's compact enclosure, consistent coverage pattern, and 70Hz–20kHz frequency response make it well suited for background music in hotel lobbies, restaurant dining areas, and retail environments where discreet speaker placement is important.
Is a black version of the CDD8W available?
Yes. The CDD8B is the acoustically identical black (RAL9005) variant, also available at Creation Networks.
Does the CDD8W require an external crossover?
No. A 2.3kHz passive crossover network is integrated within the enclosure. No external crossover hardware is required for standard two-way operation; the speaker connects directly to a power amplifier or 70V/100V system via the push-lock terminals.
What mounting hardware is compatible?
The CDD8W includes six rear M6 inserts that accept optional Martin Audio wall and ceiling brackets. Consult Martin Audio's hardware catalog or contact Creation Networks for compatible bracket models.
