Product Overview

The Listen Technologies LWR-1050-MH is a Meetinghouse Wi-Fi audio receiver that streams assistive listening audio over a venue's existing wireless network. It is the hardware option for patrons who cannot or will not use a personal phone with a commercial assistive listening system, which is what most accessibility obligations actually require a venue to provide. Dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n operation means it works on the network already in the building rather than a dedicated RF distribution layer. Seven hours of continuous streaming covers a full programme day.

Product Description

Wi-Fi based assistive listening removes the dedicated transmitter and antenna infrastructure that RF systems need, at the cost of depending on the wireless network being correctly provisioned. That trade is usually worth making in a building with managed Wi-Fi already in place.

Listen Technologies LWR-1050-MH Meetinghouse Wi-Fi audio receiver

The LWR-1050 operates on 802.11 a/b/g/n across both 2.4 and 5 GHz, supporting channels 1–11 and 36–165 depending on region. Audio quality is well beyond what assistive listening strictly requires: 20 Hz to 20 kHz ±1dB with better than 74 dB signal to noise. Latency runs 40 to 60 ms and is dependent on network, traffic and QoS, which is the specification line worth showing your network team, because it is the one they control.

Front panel controls cover power, channel up and down, volume, and language selection, with a 64 x 128 pixel OLED display showing volume, battery, Wi-Fi signal strength and channel. The 1200 mAh lithium-ion battery is field replaceable and delivers seven hours of continuous streaming, recharging in under four hours from flat. At 80 g with a belt clip it is light enough to be worn for a full session.

Receivers require a server: the 4-channel or 8-channel ListenWIFI audio server depending on channel count. Venues are required to signpost the service, which the ListenWIFI hearing assistance signage and venue awareness kit cover. A replacement power supply is stocked for the server.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the venue network need to provide?
Standard managed Wi-Fi across 2.4 or 5 GHz, with QoS configured for the audio stream. Latency of 40 to 60 ms is dependent on network, traffic and QoS, so involve the network team at design stage rather than at commissioning.

Does each receiver need a licence or subscription?
Receivers connect to a ListenWIFI server on the venue network. Server capacity, not per-receiver licensing, determines how many listeners a system supports.

How many listeners can one server support?
500 concurrent users per server, at 125 kbps of audio bandwidth per listening device.

Can hearing aid users receive the audio?
Yes, through an inductive neck loop on the 3.5mm TRRS output, which couples to the telecoil in a hearing aid. Neck loops are ordered separately.

Is the battery replaceable?
Yes. The 1200 mAh lithium-ion cell is field replaceable, which keeps a circulating receiver fleet serviceable rather than disposable.

Why issue receivers if patrons have phones?
A personal device requires the patron to install an app, have battery, and have headphones. An accessibility obligation generally requires the venue to provide receivers regardless of what patrons carry.

What warranty and support apply?
Listen Technologies specifies a 2 year warranty on this receiver. Contact Creation Networks for current terms, RMA handling and pre-sales design support.
