Product Overview
The Lightware MX2-8x8-DH-8DPi-A is an 8x8 standalone matrix switcher with eight DisplayPort 1.2 inputs and eight HDMI 2.0 outputs, supporting 4K UHD at 60Hz RGB 4:4:4. It is designed for environments where all video sources connect via DisplayPort — workstations, CAD systems, simulation computers — and all displays use HDMI 2.0. This configuration eliminates DP-to-HDMI conversion at every source while centralizing signal routing in a single 1RU device. AV integrators specifying a DisplayPort input HDMI output 4K matrix switcher for engineering labs, government control rooms, or multi-display visualization environments will find this the direct fit.
Product Description
The MX2-8x8-DH-8DPi-A operates at 18 Gbps per port. Eight DisplayPort 1.2 inputs accept sources directly — including Mini DP and Thunderbolt 3 via passive adapters — and route them internally through a non-blocking HDMI 2.0 crosspoint to eight HDMI 2.0 outputs. Resolutions up to 4096x2160 at 60Hz are supported, with RGB 4:4:4 signals down-converted to 4:2:2 where required for HDR compliance within the 18 Gbps bandwidth constraint. The matrix passes HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio on the HDMI output side.

Audio connections are available at four dedicated analog 5-pole Phoenix I/O connectors next to the HDMI output ports, providing de-embedding of HDMI-embedded audio and embedding of external analog audio. Front panel crosspoint keys, Ethernet web server, and RS-232 serial control are standard. Pixel Accurate Reclocking and Advanced EDID Management are integrated. DP MST, DP++, Adaptive-Sync, FreeSync, and HDR on DisplayPort outputs are not applicable since outputs are HDMI only.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is a DP-to-HDMI adapter required at each source?
- No. The eight DisplayPort 1.2 inputs are native DP connectors. Sources with Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 3 outputs connect via passive DP adapters. No active HDMI conversion is needed at the source side.
- How many analog audio ports does this model include?
- Four analog audio I/O positions are provided, located adjacent to the HDMI output ports (designated H: next to HDMI in Lightware's port diagram). Each position has a 5-pole Phoenix connector for stereo balanced audio embedding or de-embedding.
- Can Thunderbolt 3 MacBook or PC sources connect directly?
- Yes. Thunderbolt 3 is electrically compatible with DisplayPort 1.2. A passive USB-C to DisplayPort cable or adapter enables direct connection to the MX2-8x8-DH-8DPi-A inputs.
- Does this model support 5K displays?
- Yes, on the HDMI 2.0 outputs: 5120x2160 at 30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz 4:2:0. This is compatible with 5K ultrawide monitors used in Microsoft Teams Front Row and high-resolution visualization applications.
- What control systems can drive this matrix?
- Ethernet TCP/IP and RS-232 with Lightware's open, documented API. Compatible with Crestron, AMX, Q-SYS, Extron Control, and any control system supporting IP or RS-232 device control.
- Where can I buy this matrix?
