Product Overview

The Bose ControlSpace EX-440C is a 1RU all-in-one conferencing signal processor designed for small to medium-size conference rooms, distance learning spaces, and courtrooms that require integrated AEC, VoIP, PSTN, and Dante audio networking in a compact rack-mount package. Providing 4 balanced mic/line analog inputs, 4 analog outputs, 8-channel acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), 16x16 Dante connectivity, a SIP 2.0-compliant VoIP line, a PSTN RJ-11 connection, a Micro-B USB soft codec port, and a 4-channel AmpLink digital output, the EX-440C consolidates the conferencing signal chain into a single device configurable with Bose ControlSpace Designer software. As the smaller-capacity counterpart to the EX-1280C, it is the right choice for rooms that need professional-grade conferencing infrastructure without the channel count requirements of a larger space.

Product Description

The EX-440C is purpose-built for the standard small-to-medium conference room: a space with a ceiling microphone array or boundary mics at the table, a pan-tilt-zoom camera, a room audio system, and connections to both IP telephony and traditional POTS lines. Its 8-channel AEC engine handles tail lengths up to 480 ms with 32 dB of noise reduction and 4 reference channels, covering room geometries where long reverberation times or parallel hard surfaces would defeat lesser echo cancellers. Each AEC channel includes adaptive noise cancellation, non-linear processing, and comfort noise generation to maintain call clarity across the full range of room conditions.

The single VoIP line is SIP 2.0 compliant with an internal web interface, allowing an IT administrator to configure VoIP parameters — server address, credentials, dial plan — directly through a browser without accessing the ControlSpace Designer file. This cleanly separates AV system management from IT telephony provisioning, which matters in enterprise environments with strict IT governance policies. The PSTN RJ-11 port handles worldwide analog telephone connections, providing a reliable fallback for regions or facilities where analog lines are still required.

The 4-channel AmpLink output connects to AmpLink-equipped Bose Professional amplifiers — such as the PowerShare PS604D or PowerMatch PM8500N — over a single shielded Cat 5/6 cable, delivering uncompressed digital audio with less than 21 μs latency. The 16x16 Dante port supports connection to network-distributed microphones, amplifiers, and endpoints, with the AEC engine routable to Dante inputs as well as the onboard analog inputs. A GPIO input (1 channel) provides external control integration for fire alarm mute or room scheduling triggers. RS-232 (DTE) serial port supports third-party control systems and ControlSpace Designer-generated API protocols.

The front panel 256x64 OLED display and rotary encoder enable IP address setup and channel metering without a PC on-site. The same 32-bit floating-point DSP architecture used across the EX series — 456 MHz DSP and 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU — provides 3.6 GIPS processing headroom for complex ControlSpace Designer signal flows including automatic mic mixing, parametric EQ, compression, gating, and routing logic.

Available from Creation Networks as SKU 834315-1110 (US-120V).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the EX-440C differ from the EX-1280C?
The EX-440C provides 4 analog inputs, 4 analog outputs, 8-channel AEC, 1 VoIP line, 1 PSTN line, 16x16 Dante, and a 4-channel AmpLink output. It is designed for small to medium conference rooms. The EX-1280C scales up to 12 analog inputs, 8 outputs, 12-channel AEC, 2 VoIP lines, 64x64 Dante, and an 8-channel AmpLink output for larger or multi-room deployments.
Can the EX-440C's VoIP be configured by the IT department without involving the AV integrator?
Yes. The single VoIP line has a built-in web interface accessible at the unit's IP address. IT administrators can set all SIP 2.0 parameters — server, credentials, dial plan — directly through a browser without accessing or modifying the ControlSpace Designer design file.
Does the EX-440C work with ceiling microphone arrays using Dante?
Yes. The 16x16 Dante port accepts audio from any Dante-enabled microphone, including ceiling array microphones. Dante inputs are routable to the onboard AEC engine, so echo cancellation can be applied to Dante microphone sources as well as the 4 onboard analog inputs.
What amplifiers are compatible with the EX-440C's AmpLink output?
The AmpLink output is compatible with any AmpLink-equipped Bose Professional amplifier, including the PowerShare PS604D and PowerShare PS404D. The 4-channel AmpLink output connects via a single shielded Cat 5/6 cable, delivering uncompressed digital audio with less than 21 μs latency.
Is the EX-440C compatible with Crestron and AMX control systems?
Yes, via the onboard RS-232 and Ethernet ports. ControlSpace Designer generates a serial command API for third-party control system programming. The EX-440C is also compatible with Bose CC-16 wall controllers, though the EX-440C has a single RS-232 DTE port rather than the RS-485 CC-16 master port found on the larger EX-1280 and EX-1280C models.
What does the single GPIO input do?
The 1-channel GPI (general purpose input) accepts a contact closure or voltage input from external systems. Common uses include fire alarm audio mute, room occupancy sensor-triggered standby, and external button control for preset changes or source selection. Logic programming is handled within ControlSpace Designer.
What is the warranty on the Bose ControlSpace EX-440C?
Bose Professional products are covered by Bose's standard commercial warranty. Contact Creation Networks for current warranty terms and service options.
