Product Overview
The Atlas Sound Q4712 is a 12-inch Q Series 4-cubic-foot square speaker enclosure designed for in-ceiling installation of commercial loudspeaker drivers, including the AtlasIED 12CX, 12CXT60, and C12BT60. Built from 18-gauge cold rolled steel with an acoustical fiber board lining and internal fiberglass treatment, this square ceiling speaker enclosure controls resonance, reduces hangover, and improves low-frequency clarity in distributed audio systems. The Q4712 is TAA and Buy American Act compliant, making it suitable for federally funded and government projects requiring domestic content compliance.
Product Description
The Q4712 enclosure uses 18-gauge cold rolled steel construction with compound 1/2"-3/4" knockouts on all four sides for flexible conduit entry. Unique formed ribs on the back panel add rigidity to the large metal structure without requiring additional bracing. The inner walls are lined with 1-1/2-inch thick fiberglass insulation at 1.5 lb/cu.ft. density to absorb unwanted high-frequency resonances within the enclosure. A unique acoustical fiberboard panel is permanently affixed to the inner walls to eliminate the metallic hangover and vibration typically associated with large metal enclosures. The front mounting panel is 18-gauge steel incorporating the baffle mounting plaster ring, isolated from the enclosure by a foam gasket to prevent metal-to-metal contact and resonance coupling. Two sets of slotted mounting tabs are welded on parallel sides to accept optional QR30 mounting channels for ceiling installation, or to accommodate custom installer-developed mounting techniques. Physical dimensions are 18" H x 23" W x 16.3" D. The baffle required is the 164-12A (white) or 164-12A-052 (black), ordered separately. The entire enclosure is finished in black textured epoxy. This enclosure is BAA compliant and TAA compliant for government procurement requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which loudspeaker drivers are compatible with the Q4712 enclosure?
A: The Q4712 is sized to match AtlasIED 12CX, 12CXT60, and C12BT60 12-inch loudspeaker drivers. These drivers are ordered separately.
Q: Is a baffle included with the Q4712?
A: No. The Q4712 requires a separately ordered baffle: 164-12A for white or 164-12A-052 for black. The front mounting panel with plaster ring is included as part of the enclosure.
Q: Is the Q4712 compliant with government procurement requirements?
A: Yes. The Q4712 is both TAA (Trade Agreements Act) and BAA (Buy American Act) compliant for use on federally funded and government projects.
Q: How is the enclosure mounted in the ceiling?
A: The enclosure includes slotted mounting tabs on two parallel sides that accept optional QR30 mounting channels for ceiling grid installation. The tabs also accommodate custom installer-developed mounting solutions.
Q: What is the purpose of the acoustical fiberboard lining?
A: The permanently affixed acoustical fiberboard on the inner walls eliminates the metallic hangover and vibration that large metal enclosures typically exhibit, improving low-frequency clarity and transient response.
Q: Can the Q4712 be used in government or institutional facilities?
A: Yes. TAA and BAA compliance makes this enclosure appropriate for use in federally funded, government, educational, and institutional AV installations where domestic content or trade agreement compliance is required.
