Product Overview
The SurgeX SX-1115-RT is a 1U rack-mount, 15-amp power conditioner and surge suppressor with remote turn-on capability, engineered for commercial AV system integration in conference rooms, training rooms, and multi-purpose spaces. As a 15-amp rackmount power conditioner with remote turn-on, the SX-1115-RT provides eight rear-panel outlets and the same Advanced Series Mode surge elimination technology as the 20-amp SX-1120-RT, in a form factor sized for standard 15-amp commercial branch circuits. It carries the highest UL 1449 Adjunct Endurance classification (A-1-1) and meets federal Grade A, Class 1, Mode 1 specifications under CIDA-A-55818.
Product Description
The SX-1115-RT delivers 15 amps at 120V through eight rear-panel grounded receptacles — six switched and two always-on — plus a front-panel courtesy outlet for local access during rack commissioning and service. The remote turn-on input accepts 5 to 30V DC or a contact closure, enabling direct integration with commercial AV control systems to bring the entire rack on and off as part of a room control preset.
Advanced Series Mode surge elimination technology provides zero let-through voltage on surge events up to 6,000 volts and handles unlimited surge current without degrading over time. Unlike conventional MOV-based designs that divert surge energy to the ground conductor and generate common-mode noise, Advanced Series Mode contains and dissipates the surge within the protection circuit, leaving the ground conductor clean and audio signal paths undisturbed.
Impedance Tolerant EMI/RFI filtering delivers greater than 30 dB of normal-mode attenuation from 80 kHz to 50 MHz, with peak attenuation of 75 dB at 3 MHz. This level of filtering is effective against the broadband switching noise generated by LED drivers, dimmer circuits, computer power supplies, and building HVAC systems that are commonly found on shared commercial branch circuits. Common-mode attenuation exceeds 30 dB from 700 kHz to 20 MHz, reducing differential noise between hot and neutral conductors that can degrade digital AV signal integrity.
COUVS over/under-voltage shutdown circuitry monitors line voltage continuously and disconnects switched outlets when voltage goes outside safe operating parameters, protecting equipment from brownout and line fault damage. SurgeX ICE (Inrush Current Elimination) technology manages inrush current at power-up to prevent nuisance circuit breaker trips in installations where multiple devices in the rack draw simultaneously from a single 15-amp circuit. A self-test circuit with front-panel visual indicator provides ongoing confirmation that protection is active.

- 8 Rear-Panel Outlets — Six switched and two always-on receptacles plus a front-panel courtesy outlet; supports full 15-amp load capacity of a dedicated branch circuit.
- Impedance Tolerant EMI/RFI Filtering — Greater than 30 dB normal-mode attenuation from 80 kHz to 50 MHz; effective against switching supply noise, LED dimmer interference, and HVAC motor harmonics.
- COUVS Over/Under-Voltage Shutdown — Monitors line voltage and automatically disconnects switched outlets during brownout or overvoltage conditions to protect connected AV equipment.
- ICE Inrush Current Elimination — Manages inrush current at power-up to prevent nuisance circuit breaker trips on shared or fully loaded 15-amp commercial branch circuits.
- UL 1449 A-1-1 Rating — Tested to 1,000 surges at 6,000V / 3,000A with 170V measured suppressed voltage and zero failures; highest UL 1449 Adjunct Endurance classification.
- Self-Test Circuit with Visual Indicator — Continuously verifies protection status; front-panel LED alerts when the unit requires attention.
- Thermal Circuit Breaker Protection — Provides overload protection without replaceable fuses, restoring automatically after thermal cool-down.
- Magnetic Shielding Steel Enclosure — Reduces EMI radiation from the PDU into adjacent audio, video, and DSP equipment in the same rack.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the SX-1115-RT and the SX-1120-RT?
- The SX-1115-RT is rated at 15 amps and the SX-1120-RT is rated at 20 amps. Both share the same outlet configuration, remote turn-on capability, EMI/RFI filtering, and Advanced Series Mode surge elimination. The 15-amp model is appropriate for standard commercial branch circuits; the 20-amp model is used on dedicated 20-amp circuits supporting heavier AV rack loads.
- How do I connect the remote turn-on to a Crestron control processor?
- Connect the relay output of the Crestron control card or expansion chassis to the remote turn-on terminal on the SX-1115-RT rear panel. The input accepts contact closures (3 mA) or applied DC voltages from 5 to 30V. No additional interface hardware or relay module is required.
- Does the SX-1115-RT protect against brownouts as well as surges?
- Yes. COUVS circuitry monitors line voltage continuously. If voltage falls below the undervoltage threshold or rises above the overvoltage threshold, the switched outlets are disconnected until voltage returns to within safe operating limits. This protects equipment from the sustained low-voltage conditions that cause motor overheating and power supply stress.
- How does Impedance Tolerant EMI/RFI filtering differ from standard filtering?
- Conventional EMI filters are designed for a specific load impedance (typically 50 ohms) and their attenuation degrades significantly when connected to the varying impedance of real-world equipment. Impedance Tolerant filtering maintains consistent attenuation across a wide range of load impedances, making it effective regardless of what equipment is plugged into the outlets.
- Will the SX-1115-RT prevent circuit breaker trips in a shared-circuit installation?
- ICE (Inrush Current Elimination) technology actively manages inrush current at power-up, which is the primary cause of nuisance circuit breaker trips when multiple devices power on simultaneously. For heavily loaded 15-amp circuits with multiple high-inrush devices, using the SurgeX SEQ-1U for sequenced power-up provides additional control over inrush distribution.
- Does the SX-1115-RT require any programming or configuration?
- No. The SX-1115-RT is a plug-and-protect device that requires no user programming. The remote turn-on input is wired during installation, and the unit operates automatically from that point forward. The self-test circuit monitors protection status continuously without any user interaction required.
- Is the SX-1115-RT manufactured in the United States?
- Yes. The SX-1115-RT is manufactured in the U.S.A. and carries an ETL listing to UL 1449-2, confirming compliance with the applicable UL standard for surge protective devices.
