Product Overview

The Lightware UCX-2x2-H40 is a compact universal matrix switcher combining 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs, 2 HDMI 2.0 outputs, and USB 3.1 connectivity in a single half-rack unit designed for huddle spaces, small boardrooms, and technology-rich meeting rooms. It routes 4K60 video, multi-channel audio, USB data, and control signals simultaneously, eliminating the need for separate USB hubs, audio extractors, and AV switchers in space-constrained installations. The UCX platform supports Lightware's Universal Control API and integrates natively with leading room control systems including Crestron, Extron, and Q-SYS. Its unified approach to AV and USB switching reduces cabling complexity and installation time in modern BYOD meeting environments.

The UCX-2x2-H40 handles 4K60 4:4:4 HDMI 2.0 video at up to 18 Gbps throughput with full HDCP 2.2 compliance. Its 2x2 matrix architecture allows any input to be routed to any output independently, with breakaway audio support for routing audio independently of video. The USB 3.1 integration is a key differentiator: the unit includes a USB-C and USB-A hub that switches along with the video signal, enabling BYOD laptop connections to room peripherals — conferencing cameras, speakerphones, and interactive displays — without additional USB infrastructure. Ethernet control and RS-232 allow integration with room control systems, while an intuitive front-panel button interface enables standalone operation without a control processor. The internal auto-switcher function detects active sources and routes them automatically, suitable for small rooms without dedicated AV support staff. EDID management is handled per-input through Lightware Device Controller software.

Key Features

  • 2x2 HDMI 2.0 Matrix — Routes any of 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs to any or both HDMI 2.0 outputs independently with full 4K60 4:4:4 support.
  • USB 3.1 Integration — Switches USB 3.1 (including USB-C) alongside video for BYOD laptop connectivity to room peripherals without a separate USB hub.
  • Breakaway Audio Routing — Routes audio independently of video for flexible audio matrix configurations.
  • HDCP 2.2 Compliant — Full end-to-end content protection for secure presentation of protected media.
  • Auto-Switching — Detects active HDMI sources and switches automatically, enabling simple room operation without a control system.
  • EDID Management — Per-input EDID control via Lightware Device Controller ensures stable source compatibility.
  • Multi-platform Control — RS-232, Ethernet (LCP), and front-panel control; drivers available for Crestron, Extron, AMX, Q-SYS.
  • Half-Rack Form Factor — Compact chassis fits in furniture AV bays, lecterns, and small rack spaces with minimal footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the UCX-2x2-H40 route both outputs to the same source simultaneously?
Yes. The 2x2 matrix allows Input 1 or Input 2 to be mirrored to both Output 1 and Output 2 simultaneously, which is the typical configuration for displaying the same content on a room display and a confidence monitor.
Does the USB switching follow the video switching automatically?
Yes. By default, USB switching is tied to video switching, so when a new video input is selected, the USB host switches to the corresponding connected laptop. This behavior can be configured independently via the LCP API if separate video and USB routing is required.
What USB devices are supported through the USB 3.1 hub?
The UCX-2x2-H40 supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 devices including webcams, conference speakerphones, USB-connected interactive displays, and standard HID devices (keyboard, mouse). USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) devices may operate at reduced speeds.
Is a control system required to operate the switcher?
No. The UCX-2x2-H40 has front-panel buttons for manual input selection and an auto-switching mode that detects active sources without any control processor. A control system is optional for advanced routing scenarios.
Does the unit support 4K HDR pass-through?
Yes. HDR10 and HLG metadata are passed transparently through the HDMI 2.0 paths. HDR is dependent on source and display compatibility — the switcher does not convert or strip HDR metadata.
What software is used to configure EDID settings?
Lightware Device Controller (LDC), available as a free download, is used to configure per-input EDID tables, routing presets, and control settings. The unit can also be configured via its LCP API over Ethernet.
Is the UCX-2x2-H40 available at Creation Networks?
Yes. The UCX-2x2-H40 is available at creationnetworks.net. Contact Creation Networks for project pricing, integration support, and system design consultation.
