Product Overview

The Williams AV IR SY5 is a medium-area infrared assistive listening system configured for three listeners, ideal for conference rooms, classrooms, courtrooms, and assisted living facilities. The kit pairs the IR T2 SoundPlus infrared transmitter with three WIR RX22-4 four-channel bodypack receivers, folding headphones, and induction neckloops for T-coil hearing aid users. With coverage up to 18,000 square feet and selectable transmission frequencies, the IR SY5 delivers ADA-ready assistive listening without RF licensing or interference concerns.

Product Description

The wall- and ceiling-mountable IR T2 transmitter integrates the modulator and emitter in one compact enclosure, so no rack space is required. Two Euroblock line inputs accept balanced or unbalanced signal from a DSP, mixer, or amplifier, and a 3.5mm microphone input with dedicated gain knob supports standalone operation. A separate Euroblock control port lets AV integrators tie the transmitter into a room control system, while back-panel green and yellow LEDs confirm power and signal status. A power-saving mode automatically shuts off the IR carrier after 12 minutes without audio.

Each of the three WIR RX22-4 bodypack receivers offers four selectable channels across the 2.3/2.8/3.3/3.8 MHz band, dual infrared detectors for sensitivity and range, a low-battery indicator, and on/off/volume controls. Listeners can use the included HED 021 folding headphones for on-ear monitoring or the two included 18-inch induction neckloops to couple audio directly to T-coil hearing aids and cochlear implants. Six AA batteries, a wall/ceiling mount, and an ADA wall plaque complete the package, and because infrared cannot pass through walls, adjacent rooms can run identical systems without crosstalk.

For larger audiences, compare the five-receiver Williams AV IR SY4 system, or browse the full Williams AV collection for additional receivers and accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in the IR SY5 kit?

The kit includes the IR T2 infrared transmitter with power supply, three WIR RX22-4 four-channel bodypack receivers, three HED 021 folding headphones, two 18-inch induction neckloops, six AA batteries, a wall/ceiling mount, and an ADA wall plaque.

Does the system support hearing aid users?

Yes. The included NKL induction neckloops magnetically couple audio to T-coil (telecoil) equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants, meeting a core ADA assistive listening requirement.

How does the transmitter connect to my AV system?

The IR T2 accepts line-level audio through two Euroblock inputs (balanced or unbalanced) from a DSP, mixer, or amplifier. A 3.5mm microphone input with dedicated gain is also provided for standalone use.

Can I run identical systems in adjacent rooms?

Yes. Infrared transmission is contained by walls, so neighboring rooms can operate on the same frequencies without crosstalk or interference — a common scenario in courthouses and training centers.

Can more receivers be added later?

Yes. The IR T2 supports any number of compatible Williams AV infrared receivers within its coverage area, so the system scales with audience size.

Is an FCC license required?

No. Infrared systems do not use RF spectrum, so no FCC license or frequency coordination is required.
