Lens choice is calculated, not picked

Throw ratio is the distance from lens to screen divided by image width. Work it the other way round: measure the available distance, decide the image width the room needs, divide, and that number tells you which lens. Choosing a projector before checking a lens exists for that distance is the most common way a projector ends up in the wrong place.

Note that the same lens gives different throw ratios on different chassis — an ET-D75LE10 is 1.3–1.7:1 on a PT-DZ21K2U but 1.4–1.9:1 on a PT-DW17K2U, because the imager aspect ratio differs. Always read the ratio for your specific projector rather than the headline figure.

Lens shift matters as much as throw

A lens that reaches the right distance but cannot shift far enough vertically will put the image in the wrong place on the wall. In a finished ceiling, that means moving the mount. Check shift range against the mounting height before ordering, not after.

No-lens bodies

Many Panasonic installation projectors ship as no-lens bodies — the KL suffix — precisely so the lens can be matched to the room. If you are specifying one of those, the lens is a required line item rather than an accessory.
