Specify coverage with the hardware, not after

Extended warranty pricing and eligibility are usually tied to the point of sale. Adding coverage months later often costs more, and in some programmes is not available at all once the standard term has started. If the equipment is going into a room that matters, decide the coverage term at quote stage.

Match the term to the refresh cycle

Buying five years of coverage on a projector you intend to replace in three is wasted spend; buying three on a large-venue installation that will run for eight leaves a gap at exactly the point failure becomes likely. The useful question is how long the room is expected to run before the system is replaced.

For ceiling-mounted and rigged equipment the labour component matters more than the parts. Getting a lift into an auditorium to swap a projector costs more than the part in many cases, which is what makes on-site coverage worth the difference on large-venue installations.
