Product Overview
The QSC Server Core X20r is the mid-tier Q-SYS X-Class Server Core, delivering 2× the DSP processing power of the Server Core X10 on Dell R360XE enterprise server hardware with dual redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. Designed for large-scale, mission-critical AV deployments where uptime cannot be compromised, the X20r provides 384×384 Q-LAN/AES67 network audio channels, 128 AEC channels, up to 256×256 Dante capacity, 64 VoIP softphone instances, and a 480 GB onboard media drive. Four gigabit Ethernet ports — two multimedia and two auxiliary — support redundant AV transport alongside segregated network services including VoIP, SNMP, LDAP, and WAN media streaming.
The “r” in X20r denotes the redundant PSU configuration — a critical differentiator for installations in venues, government facilities, broadcast environments, and enterprise campuses where a single point of power failure is not acceptable. The X20r also includes iDRAC v9 remote management for out-of-band hardware diagnostics, firmware management, and server monitoring independent of the Q-SYS software layer. Like all Q-SYS Cores, the X20r runs the Q-SYS Full Stack AV Platform and is fully compatible with the Q-SYS Designer software, NV video endpoints, QIO I/O expanders, CX-Q network amplifiers, and all Q-SYS network peripherals.
Key Features
- 2× the DSP processing power of the Server Core X10 — Handles the most demanding large-scale signal routing, multi-zone AEC processing, and complex automation logic without processing headroom constraints.
- 384×384 Q-LAN/AES67 networked audio channels — 50% more network audio capacity than the X10; suitable for large campus, multi-building, and venue-wide AV architectures.
- 128 AEC channels at 200 ms tail length — Twice the AEC capacity of the X10 and Core 610; handles enterprise-wide multi-room conferencing deployments from a single centralized processor.
- Up to 256×256 software-based Dante channels (8×8 included) — Largest Dante capacity in the X-Class Server Core family at this tier; supports full-scale enterprise Dante network integration.
- Dual redundant, hot-swappable power supplies — Critical for mission-critical deployments; either PSU can fail or be replaced without powering down the processor or interrupting AV services.
- iDRAC v9 remote management — Dedicated out-of-band management port for hardware-level diagnostics, firmware updates, and server monitoring independent of Q-SYS software availability.
- 64 VoIP softphone instances — Double the X10's VoIP capacity; supports large enterprise telephony integration across multiple zones and buildings.
- 480 GB onboard media drive (400+ GB user-available) — 4-channel recording and 16-channel playback standard; expandable to 128 tracks with optional stackable license (up to 8× SLMTP-32).
- 16 Q-SYS NM-T1 beamforming microphone support — Suitable for large enterprise deployments with widespread tabletop microphone installations.
- 96×96 Media/WAN channel capacity — High-capacity AV-over-IP distribution for large venue or campus-wide media streaming.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the “r” designation mean on the X20r?
The “r” indicates redundant power supply configuration. The X20r ships with dual 600W hot-swappable PSUs: if one fails, the processor continues operating without interruption and the failed unit can be replaced without powering down. This makes the X20r the appropriate choice for venues, government facilities, broadcast environments, or enterprise campuses where continuous uptime is a contractual or operational requirement.
How does the X20r differ from the Server Core X10?
The X20r delivers 2× the DSP processing power of the X10, with 384×384 vs. 256×256 Q-LAN channels, 128 vs. 64 AEC channels, 256×256 vs. 128×128 Dante capacity, 64 vs. 32 VoIP instances, and 480 GB vs. 256 GB media storage. The critical hardware differentiators are the dual hot-swappable PSUs and iDRAC v9 out-of-band management — neither of which is available on the X10.
What is iDRAC and why does it matter for commercial AV?
iDRAC (Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller) is a dedicated out-of-band server management interface. It allows IT staff to monitor hardware health, update firmware, restart the server, and diagnose issues without requiring physical rack access or Q-SYS software connectivity. For enterprise AV deployments managed by IT operations teams, iDRAC enables the Core X20r to be treated as a managed server node alongside other data center infrastructure.
Does the X20r support the same Q-SYS peripherals as smaller Core processors?
Yes. The Server Core X20r is fully compatible with all Q-SYS network peripherals: touch panels, NC Series PTZ cameras, NM-T1 microphones, NV video endpoints, QIO I/O expanders, CX-Q network amplifiers, and all Q-SYS licensed software features. All peripherals are managed through the same Q-SYS Designer software environment used across the entire Q-SYS Core family.
What warranty and support applies to the Server Core X20r?
QSC's standard 3-year limited warranty covers the Q-SYS platform. The Dell R360XE hardware may carry separate Dell warranty coverage. Creation Networks provides pre-sales architecture consultation, Q-SYS Designer support, and post-sale technical assistance. Contact us at creationnetworks.net.
