Product Overview
The Meyer Sound MM-4XPD is a directional miniature self-powered loudspeaker designed for high-quality distributed sound systems in reverberant spaces. Its hypercardioid polar pattern significantly reduces room excitation and improves intelligibility, making it well suited to houses of worship, auditoriums, museums, and reverberant commercial meeting spaces. Like the standard MM-4XP, it uses Meyer Sound IntelligentDC technology to receive both 48 V DC power and balanced audio over a single cable. This global black-finish model delivers Meyer Sound's signature flat frequency and phase response with the added benefit of controlled directivity.
Product Description

The MM-4XPD meets the same performance standards as the MM-4XP while adding a patented passive directional design. Using a single 4-inch cone transducer, the loudspeaker achieves a hypercardioid pattern that yields 10 dB of attenuation between the front and rear even at low frequencies, all without the cost and complexity of multi-driver directional techniques. It delivers a linear peak SPL of 111.5 dB across an operating frequency range of 120 Hz to 18 kHz with very low distortion. Power and balanced audio arrive through a single SwitchCraft EN3 5-pin male connector, and the amplifier stores DC power and tolerates voltage drops to support long, light-gauge cable runs. The MM-4XPD requires a Meyer Sound IntelligentDC power supply such as the MPS-482HP or MPS-488HP. Pair it with the Universal MUB MM-4XP bracket kit for mounting, and for non-directional fill applications consider the standard MM-4XP loudspeaker. Explore the full range in our Meyer Sound collection.
Key Features
- Directional Hypercardioid Pattern — Provides 10 dB of front-to-back attenuation even at low frequencies to control directivity where it is hardest to achieve.
- Reduced Room Excitation — The directional pattern minimizes reflected energy, improving intelligibility in highly reverberant spaces.
- Single-Driver Directional Technology — Patented passive design achieves directivity with one transducer, minimizing energy consumption, weight, and cabinet volume.
- IntelligentDC Technology — A single SwitchCraft EN3 5-pin connection carries both 48 V DC power and balanced audio for low-noise distribution.
- Wide-Range Response — A 120 Hz to 18 kHz operating frequency range reproduces both speech and music with high intelligibility.
- High SPL-to-Size Ratio — The 4-inch transducer delivers a linear peak SPL of 111.5 dB from a compact aluminum enclosure.
- Flexible Mounting — Two 3/8-inch-16 side inserts and the optional MUB-MM4XPD U-bracket allow wall and ceiling installation at adjustable angles.
Typical Applications
- House of Worship — Directional coverage that improves speech intelligibility in reverberant sanctuaries.
- Auditorium — Distributed reinforcement in acoustically live rooms where room excitation must be controlled.
- Commercial Meeting Space — High-intelligibility coverage for reverberant corporate and presentation environments.
- Multi-Purpose Room — Even, directional sound for flexible spaces with challenging acoustics.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the MM-4XPD differ from the standard MM-4XP?
The MM-4XPD adds a patented passive hypercardioid directional pattern that delivers 10 dB of front-to-back attenuation even at low frequencies, reducing room excitation in reverberant spaces while otherwise matching the MM-4XP's performance.
Does the MM-4XPD require a separate power supply?
Yes. It is a self-powered loudspeaker requiring a Meyer Sound IntelligentDC external power supply such as the MPS-482HP or MPS-488HP to deliver 48 V DC power and balanced audio over the EN3 connection.
How long can the cable runs be?
Meyer Sound power supplies can deliver DC power to the MM-4XPD at cable lengths up to 300 feet with just 1 dB of peak SPL loss using 18 AWG wire. Heavier gauge wiring allows longer runs.
What connector does the MM-4XPD use?
It uses a single SwitchCraft EN3 5-pin male connector carrying both 48 V DC power (two pins) and balanced audio (three pins).
Is the MM-4XPD covered by a warranty?
Yes. This product is covered under Meyer Sound's standard product warranty. For details, please contact us.
