Product Overview

The Bluesound Professional B400S is a 1U rack-mount, 4-zone commercial network music player built on the BluOS platform, purpose-engineered for multi-zone background music in commercial AV installations. It streams high-resolution audio up to 192kHz/24-bit from network storage, commercial music services including SoundMachine, Custom Channels, QSIC, SiriusXM for Business, and Tunify, as well as Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz. Each of the four stereo zones operates independently or in any grouping with other BluOS devices on the network. Integrators and system designers looking for a scalable, rack-based streaming solution for hospitality, retail, or corporate environments will find the B400S a reliable anchor for any BluOS ecosystem.

Product Description

Designed without front-panel controls to prevent unauthorized adjustments, the B400S integrates security at the hardware level — a key requirement for commercial deployments. Each of the four zones provides balanced Phoenix analog outputs, plus optical (TOSLINK) and coaxial digital outputs, giving downstream amplification or DSP flexible connection options. A balanced mic/line Phoenix input and digital input allow a local source such as a microphone or music player to be injected into the system. A USB Type-A port enables replay directly from connected drives, and built-in DSP supports per-zone equalization and audio processing.

The B400S uses wired gigabit ethernet for streaming — critical in commercial environments where Wi-Fi contention is a factor. Trigger inputs support zone-level power control, and signal inputs provide remote muting capability, making it straightforward to integrate with room control systems. Third-party control system integration is supported via Control4, Crestron, RTI, URC, ELAN, and Lutron, and the optional CP100 wall-mount control panel allows staff to manage volume and presets locally without needing a device. Up to five presets per zone can be recalled from the CP100 or the BluOS Controller app on iOS, Android, Mac, or Windows.

Key Features

  • 4 Independent Stereo Zones — Each zone streams separate content or is grouped with any other BluOS device on the network, enabling flexible multi-zone audio routing from a single 1U unit.
  • Balanced Outputs per Zone — Four sets of balanced Phoenix analog outputs, plus optical and coaxial digital outputs per zone, accommodate a wide range of amplifier and DSP inputs common in commercial AV racks.
  • Commercial Music Services Natively Integrated — SoundMachine, Custom Channels, QSIC, SiriusXM for Business, and Tunify are supported alongside Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz for licensed background music in commercial spaces.
  • Hi-Res Streaming to 192kHz/24-bit — Supports FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, MQA, and all standard compressed formats up to 192kHz/24-bit resolution via wired gigabit ethernet.
  • Built-in DSP — Per-zone equalization and audio processing allow integrators to tune each zone for the acoustic environment without external signal processing hardware.
  • No Front-Panel Controls — Eliminates unauthorized zone adjustments; all control is via the BluOS app, CP100 wall panels, or third-party control systems.
  • Trigger and Signal I/O — 12V trigger inputs and outputs support amplifier control sequences; signal inputs allow remote muting of music zones on schedule or by event.
  • Local Source Input — Balanced mic/line Phoenix analog and digital inputs route a local source to any zone, useful for background announcements or DJ/live feed injection.
  • Control System Integration — Native driver support for Control4, Crestron, RTI, URC, ELAN, and Lutron simplifies commissioning in automated commercial environments.
  • Low Standby Power — Network standby draws only 6W, supporting energy efficiency requirements in commercial building projects.

Typical Applications

  • Multi-zone background music in hospitality venues, hotels, and restaurants
  • Retail environments requiring independently scheduled music zones
  • Corporate lobbies, open-plan offices, and all-hands rooms

Frequently Asked Questions

Can each zone play a different source simultaneously?

Yes. The B400S operates as four independent BluOS players. Each zone can stream a different service, playlist, or local source at the same time, or any zones can be grouped to share content.

Does the B400S require a dedicated PC or server to operate?

No. The BluOS platform runs entirely on the device. Control is via the free BluOS Controller app on iOS, Android, Mac, or Windows, or through third-party control systems. No dedicated server is required.

Which third-party control systems are supported?

The B400S integrates natively with Control4, Crestron, RTI, URC, ELAN, and Lutron. Driver files are available from Bluesound Professional for each platform.

Can the B400S be mixed with other Bluesound Professional products in the same system?

Yes. All BluOS devices — including the B100S, B170S, BSP speaker series, and BCS ceiling speakers — operate on the same network and can be grouped or managed together via the BluOS Controller app or a control system.

Is the B400S suitable for retrofit installations with existing amplification?

Yes. The balanced analog outputs and digital outputs make it straightforward to connect to existing amplifiers or DSP units. The B400S acts as the streaming source; amplification can be provided by existing infrastructure or the Bluesound Professional A860.

What is the warranty on the B400S?

Bluesound Professional products are backed by a manufacturer warranty. Contact Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net to confirm current warranty terms and support options for your region.
